TL;DR: In this article, the concept and scientific connotations of "Unconventional Petroleum Sedimentology" are proposed and briefly introduced, and the research progresses for the sedimentology of typical unconventional petroleum resources in China, such as Wufeng-Longmaxi Shale gas in Sichuan Basin and tight oil and shale oil of Yanchang Formation in Ordos Basin.
Abstract: The theoretical framework of Unconventional Petroleum Geology has been gradually established along with the rapid progresses in exploration and development of unconventional petroleum resources. It is now imperative for innovative new insights into the unconventional petroleum sedimentology. Herein, the concept and scientific connotations of "Unconventional Petroleum Sedimentology" are proposed and briefly introduced. The research progresses are summarized for the sedimentology of typical unconventional petroleum resources in China, such as Wufeng-Longmaxi Shale gas in Sichuan Basin and tight oil and shale oil of Yanchang Formation in Ordos Basin. Further research themes and challenges of Unconventional Petroleum Sedimentology are discussed. Sedimentary enrichment of unconventional petroleum resources can be closely related with some critical environmental changes, which would be the result of coupling sedimentology from several geological events such as global or regional tectonic activities, sea(lake) level changes, volcanic eruptions, climate changes, anoxic bottom water, biotic mass extinctions and radiations, and gravity currents. For better understanding of Unconventional Petroleum Sedimentology in future, the Earth Systems Science view and "unconventional" insights should be applied to its research by analyzing geological events in details, which can play an important role in the discovery of new unconventional petroleum resources.

TL;DR: This study proposes an adversarial neural network that decomposes a pretrained representation as independent denotation and connotation representations and shows that the denotation vectors improve the viewpoint diversity of document rankings.
Abstract: In politics, neologisms are frequently invented for partisan objectives. For example, "undocumented workers" and "illegal aliens" refer to the same group of people (i.e., they have the same denotation), but they carry clearly different connotations. Examples like these have traditionally posed a challenge to reference-based semantic theories and led to increasing acceptance of alternative theories (e.g., Two-Factor Semantics) among philosophers and cognitive scientists. In NLP, however, popular pretrained models encode both denotation and connotation as one entangled representation. In this study, we propose an adversarial neural network that decomposes a pretrained representation as independent denotation and connotation representations. For intrinsic interpretability, we show that words with the same denotation but different connotations (e.g., "immigrants" vs. "aliens", "estate tax" vs. "death tax") move closer to each other in denotation space while moving further apart in connotation space. For extrinsic application, we train an information retrieval system with our disentangled representations and show that the denotation vectors improve the viewpoint diversity of document rankings.

TL;DR: In this article, the problem of correlation of content and form, symmetry/asymmetry of denotation and connotation is an ongoing problem and the relevance of the current research is defined by the focus on the unresolved problem of syntactic phraseological models' semantic-functional status, and driven by the focused attention to the representation of intension in the information structure of phrasemes, which differ by correlation of qualitative-quantitative and relational meanings.
Abstract: Throughout all stages of linguistics evolution, including the modern one, the problem of correlation of content and form, symmetry/asymmetry of denotation and connotation is an ongoing problem. The relevance of the current research is, on the one hand, defined by the focus on the unresolved problem of syntactic phraseological models' semantic-functional status, and, on the other hand, driven by the focused attention to the representation of intension in the information structure of phrasemes, which differ by correlation of qualitative-quantitative and relational meanings. Phraseomodels, which are analyzed in the aspect of inter-model correlation, are correlated with those phrase models that include the slishkom..., chtoby part, which shows the redundancy in the quality or in the condition, and with those that include the ne tak/ne nastol'ko/ne stol'..., chtoby part, in which the quality of the subject, on the contrary, does not exceed the bare minimum for something to happen.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the connotation of tectonics (the classical and the digital) in architectural theory and its role as an art of construction and artistic design.
Abstract: Tectonics is one of the most essential topics in architectural theory that refers to various qualities of architecture. It resembles the integration of structure and construction, the application of technical aspects, and the attention to detail creativity in a harmonious and systematic way that reflects the cultural and aesthetic qualities, and relates to different aspects of skills, methods, materials and proportions. With the introduction of the computer into the architectural design process, theories of architecture became more influenced by the possibilities of this tool. Classical tectonics had included digital aids to create a new version of tectonics known as Digital tectonics, which is an integrated process that resembles a new way of thinking about architecture to easily define the dynamic state of digital production. The paper aims to explore the connotation of tectonics (the classical and the digital) in architectural theory and its role as an art of construction and artistic design.

Abstract: The scientific work includes wide theoretical and practical material about the study of necessity to use and teach students-future interpreters how to emphasize and neutralize connotations during fiction translation. Use of fiction as translation teaching aids is substantiated from the point of view of possible worlds theory and mental space of a language. Frequently used lexical, stylistics and combinatory transformations are recognized in translation of connotations from English into Russian on the example of the novel “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” by J.K. Rowling. The scientific work deals with the study of using different transformations due to which there is an effect of emphasizing and neutralizing. Difficulties of connotation translation are observed and ways to overcome the difficulties are given.

Abstract: C-STEAM is a localized transdisciplinary education in Chinese context with the goals of inheriting traditional culture and cultivating students’ STEAM literacy. It mainly has three core values: educational value of cultivating students’ core literacy; carrier value of inheriting outstanding traditional culture; and social value of booming regional culture. In order to see how a C-STEAM project works and effects, we adopted “6C” Instructional Design Model which is an operational steps including Contextual Experience, Connotation construction, Characteristic inquiry, Create artifact, Connect with society and Conclusion reflection. In a case study lasting 6 weeks on teaching Cantonese slang in a primary school in Foshan, China, questionnaires were used to analyze the students’ learning performance, STEAM literacy, cultural understanding and inheritance, and structured interviews were used to collect views and reflections of teachers and students. Results indicated that the application of “6C” Model has significantly improved students’ cultural understanding and cultural identity and cultural inheritance, and shown that C-STEAM plays an important role as the cultural carriers, brings some social value for constructing regional characteristic culture and enables to cultivate students’ core literacy and improves students’ transdisciplinary learning ability. More research is needed to ameliorate “6C” Model to achieve the core values of C-STEAM.

TL;DR: Li et al. as discussed by the authors developed a connotation-aware music retrieval (CaMR) framework to retrieve relevant music on social media based on the connotation of visual inputs (e.g., images, photos) provided by the users.
Abstract: With the ubiquitous network connectivity and the proliferation of mobile devices, people are increasingly consuming digital contents from social media driven music sharing platforms (e.g., YouTube, Soundcloud). In this paper, we study a novel problem of connotation-aware music retrieval that focuses on the connotation which expresses the implicit feeling or emotion beyond the explicit content in artworks. Our goal is to automatically retrieve relevant music on social media based on the connotation of visual inputs (e.g., images, photos) provided by the users. The problem is challenging as it requires the accurate identification of the implicit connotation from both images and music pieces, and the precise matching of the identified connotation across different data modalities. We develop a connotation-aware music retrieval (CaMR) framework to address the above challenges. Evaluation results from a real-world social media dataset demonstrate that the CaMR framework can retrieve music that is highly relevant to the connotation of the input image.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors explored and analyzed the cultural reproduction process of Nanjing Yunjin in the cultural tourism productionconsumption closed-cycle model, and found that cultural tourism has a significant positive impact on cultural tourism consumption, which, in turn, positively affects cultural reproduction.
Abstract: Nanjing Yunjin was included in “the first batch of non-material cultural heritage list in China” in 2006, and the city was also selected as “a list of representatives of human intangible cultural heritage” by the United Nations in September 2009. Nanjing Yunjin is now a scarce tourism resource on the verge of extinction. Carrying out effective cultural tourism development and production, and informing consumers about its cultural connotation are problems worth studying. This study aims to explore and analyze the cultural reproduction process of Nanjing Yunjin in the cultural tourism production-consumption closed-cycle model. Based on the review, the study introduces word cloud tools and explores the cultural production links of heritage by means of narrative analysis, applies quantitative methods to verify the relationship among production, consumption, and reproduction, and finally, constructs the production-consumption impact model of Nanjing Yunjin cultural tourism. Results indicate that the cultural tourism production of Nanjing Yunjin has a significant positive impact on cultural tourism consumption, which, in turn, positively affects cultural reproduction. In addition, cultural tourism production has a significant impact on its cultural reproduction part, and consumption plays a mediating role in the impact of cultural tourism production on its reproduction.

Abstract: The coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) forced the Italian population, and beyond, to live about a hundred days of confinement, where subjects were forced to live a suspended time that marked a decisive slowdown in individual and community lives. Every area of human existence has been overwhelmed by considerable changes, including school and Physical Education. As is well known, Physical Education has an essentially practical connotation and that, therefore, needs to be carried out in presence and in suitable spaces, although it has tried to intervene remotely to allow the educational continuity that every curricular teaching has necessarily had to carry on. It was a unique critical situation that needs to be interpreted on the educational side, so as to better understand this curricular didactics, what possible future scenarios arise, such as any drifts that could be met. The aim of this paper is to reflect from an educational perspective, proposing indications that allow teachers to continue to operate safely, while not distorting the fundamentally practical connotation that distinguishes this teaching.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed publications from the three leading sites of Ulyanovsk newspapers from July 2019 to February 2020 and revealed four basic types of vocabulary with a functional and stylistic coloring.
Abstract: This article focuses on the peculiarities of functional and stylistic aspects of the regional media vocabulary (Ulyanovsk region newspapers). The authors analyzed publications from the three leading sites of Ulyanovsk newspapers – Ulyanovsk Segodnya (Ulyanovsk Today), Molodezhnaya Gazeta (Youth Newspaper) and Simbirskiy kur’er (Simbirskiy Courier) from July 2019 to February 2020. The authors examined the regional broadcasting language, characteristics of printed media and lexical connotation of provincial publications. To study the stylistic peculiarities of the regional newspapers, we analyzed about 100 pages of various newspaper articles (180,000 printed characters with spaces). The conducted content analysis revealed four basic types of vocabulary with a functional and stylistic coloring. The results of the analysis showed the dominance of business vocabulary, social and political vocabulary, Internet vocabulary, as well as scientific and technical terms. According to quantitative estimation, the most widely-used group of vocabulary with functional and stylistic connotation are social and political terms (150 lexical units). This group mainly included journalistic clichés. Within the group of business lexis, the main subgroups were namely business, economic and legal vocabulary. Neologisms that are not registered in lexicographic sources are also widely used in regional newspaper publications. It should be emphasized that borrowings, primarily Anglo-Americanisms are often found in the Russian press. This is due to the fact that the English language has acquired the status of a global language. Thus, today it plays a big role in every culture and in every state, including Russia, reflecting the Russian press as well.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the semiotic signs and implied meanings of two music videos, "Goodbye Christmas" by Lay and "Universe" by EXO, using Barthes' theory.
Abstract: This study describes the semiotic signs and implied meanings of two music videos. The videos studied were “Goodbye Christmas” by Lay and “Universe” by EXO. The writer focused on the study of denotation, connotation, and myth in these videos by using Barthes’ theory. In this case, all scenes such as properties, gestures, expressions, and activities in both music videos are called denotation. This analysis used a descriptive qualitative method to analyze scenes in both music videos. Based on the analysis done, it can be affirmed that music videos can be analyzed using Barthes’ theory. The results find that the visual images communicate implied meaning conveyed through the visual images. These images communicate feelings of sadness and separation as well as friendship and affection. The messages implied in the whole scenes of both music videos are the representation of problems that shackle humans, realization, efforts, and results of the efforts done to solve the problems.
