An Analysis of the Connotation of Tourism Destination Image and It Constructive Process Based on the Perspective of Representation

Abstract: Tourism activities would be better regarded as a process or practice rather than a series of tourism products. From this viewpoint,the paper reexamines the connotation of tourism destination image and its constructive process from the perspective of sign representation. It is found that tourism destination image is a three-tiered concept involing society,culture and psychology with the following features:sharing in community and differentiating in sub-community,being rooted in the community and behaviorally prescriptive,relatively stable and long-term dynamic. The constructive process of tourism destination image is in essence an operation of its function of sign representation. The nature of tourism destination image is to organize and regulate tourism activities in tourism community.
