TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compare and contrast conventional management thought, its main features of leadership, and work motivation with those from an Islamic perspective, and provide fundamentals for developing a strong Islamic leadership.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast conventional management thought, its main features of leadership, and work motivation with those from an Islamic perspective. The paper fills in the literature gap that exists, despite the growing importance of a need for knowledge on management from an Islamic perspective.Design/methodology/approach – This paper is conceptual in nature. Therefore, the method adopted is descriptive and approached using revealed knowledge sources, as well as knowledge from conventional management literature from the cultural school of management thought.Findings – Leadership and motivational concepts in Islamic management are more comprehensive than the conventional theories. Islamic motivation frameworks also provide fundamentals for developing a strong Islamic leadership. Implications of these Islamic management concepts are not only confined to this materialistic world but also have connotation for subscribers of the belief of attaining eternal success in th...

TL;DR: In this article, the concept and scientific connotations of "Unconventional Petroleum Sedimentology" are proposed and briefly introduced, and the research progresses for the sedimentology of typical unconventional petroleum resources in China, such as Wufeng-Longmaxi Shale gas in Sichuan Basin and tight oil and shale oil of Yanchang Formation in Ordos Basin.
Abstract: The theoretical framework of Unconventional Petroleum Geology has been gradually established along with the rapid progresses in exploration and development of unconventional petroleum resources. It is now imperative for innovative new insights into the unconventional petroleum sedimentology. Herein, the concept and scientific connotations of "Unconventional Petroleum Sedimentology" are proposed and briefly introduced. The research progresses are summarized for the sedimentology of typical unconventional petroleum resources in China, such as Wufeng-Longmaxi Shale gas in Sichuan Basin and tight oil and shale oil of Yanchang Formation in Ordos Basin. Further research themes and challenges of Unconventional Petroleum Sedimentology are discussed. Sedimentary enrichment of unconventional petroleum resources can be closely related with some critical environmental changes, which would be the result of coupling sedimentology from several geological events such as global or regional tectonic activities, sea(lake) level changes, volcanic eruptions, climate changes, anoxic bottom water, biotic mass extinctions and radiations, and gravity currents. For better understanding of Unconventional Petroleum Sedimentology in future, the Earth Systems Science view and "unconventional" insights should be applied to its research by analyzing geological events in details, which can play an important role in the discovery of new unconventional petroleum resources.

TL;DR: This paper sent nearly 9000 fictitious resumes to advertisements for job openings in seven major cities in the United States across six occupational categories and randomly assigned names to the resumes that convey race and gender but for which a strong socio-economic connotation is not implicated.
Abstract: We sent nearly 9000 fictitious resumes to advertisements for job openings in seven major cities in the United States across six occupational categories. We randomly assigned names to the resumes that convey race and gender but for which a strong socio-economic connotation is not implicated. We find little evidence of systematic employer preferences for applicants from particular race and gender groups.

TL;DR: The use of the word formation in archaeology has a connotation that goes well beyond this English definition as mentioned in this paper, and it has been used in a wide range of applications in the field of archeology.
Abstract: Someone unfamiliar with the history of archaeological methods and theory who read the title of this chapter would guess that the content addresses the processes responsible for the formation of archaeological sites. That guess would be based on the English use of the word “formation”; an act of giving form or shape to something, or of taking form. The word formation in archaeology, however, has a connotation that goes well beyond this English definition.
