TL;DR: It will be shown here how a wireless heterogeneous network can be exploited for implementing a pervasive and dynamic grid (mobile grid) and, on the other hand, a mobile grid allows the optimization of the communication infrastructure.
Abstract: One of the most promising trends for next generation networks is to consider an integrated approach to the communication infrastructure and the processing layer. In particular, the introduction of broadband and reliable wireless networks allows the interaction of a huge number of devices all creating a single network. On the other hand, the grid paradigm is considered as one of the most promising approach for pervasive and dynamic applications. Aim of this paper is to present a novel integrated approach between grid paradigm and wireless networks by highlighting the main advantages of their cooperation. In particular, it will be shown here how a wireless heterogeneous network can be exploited for implementing a pervasive and dynamic grid (mobile grid) and, on the other hand, a mobile grid allows the optimization of the communication infrastructure. The integrated approach can be an effective method for solving applications, such as emergency management, where a huge amount of data derived from a wireless infrastructure needs to be processed efficiently and adaptively, and the traffic flow in the wide area wireless networks needs to be coordinated and optimized. TL;DR: A mobile information service that provides users with a route-planning tool for the tram-based public transport system of Melbourne, Australia, TramMate supports this activity by keeping track of contextual factors such as the userís physical location, upcoming appointments, and real-time travel information.
Abstract: We describe the design of a mobile information service that provides users with a route-planning tool for the tram-based public transport system of Melbourne, Australia. The design sketches for TramMate represent early iterations of an ongoing design process based on data from field studies on the use of transportation by business employees who, during a typical workday, have to attend appointments at different physical locations. TramMate supports this activity by keeping track of contextual factors such as the useris physical location, upcoming appointments, and real-time travel information. The design is integrated with an electronic calendar and alerts the user when it is necessary to commence the journey.

TL;DR: An Online Person Tracking (OPT) system for indoor environment which is aimed to provide location information to the context aware applications in Personal Network and a Weighted Minimum Mean Square Error localization algorithm is used.
Abstract: Context aware systems are the order of the day. With the advent of low cost sensor networks and systems ambient intelligence is becoming more and more sought after feature. In this work, we present an Online Person Tracking (OPT) system for indoor environment which is aimed to provide location information to the context aware applications in Personal Network. We present our extensive measurements and experimental study of the popular Tmote-Sky devices which use IEEE 802.15.4 standard. We use our experimental results to design a prototype for a real-time person tracking system with minimal number of anchor motes. A Weighted Minimum Mean Square Error (W-MMSE) localization algorithm is used in our system. This paper thoroughly records the efforts involved in designing and prototyping such a system.

TL;DR: This work develops two fuzzy inference engines dealing with context specialization and compatibility relations and evaluates such engines through a series of experiments involving real users to indicate the efficiency of the proposed context classification and inference processes.
Abstract: Context aware computing relies on sensing environmental parameters-context (e.g., illumination, location), classifying context, and inferring further knowledge about context, i.e., the user's situation. Therefore, the relevant applications cannot handle context as flexibly as their users would expect. To overcome this deficiency, we propose an extension of context representation, classification, and inference. Our model relies on fuzzy set theory to accommodate the imperfect nature of sensed context. We develop two fuzzy inference engines dealing with context specialization and compatibility relations. We evaluate such engines through a series of experiments involving real users. Our findings indicate the efficiency of the proposed context classification and inference processes.

TL;DR: This work demonstrates that despite of very limited capabilities of the microrobot, the specific construction of communication hardware and software allows very extended collective capabilities ofThe whole swarm.
Abstract: Communication among participants (agents, robots) is central to an appearance of Collective AI. In this work we deal with the development of local communication mechanisms for real microrobotic swarms. We demonstrate that despite of very limited capabilities of the microrobot, the specific construction of communication hardware and software allows very extended collective capabilities of the whole swarm. We propose mechanisms providing information content and context for collective navigation, coordination and spatial perception in a group of microrobots.
