TL;DR: In this article, an infrastructure entity and a method operable therewith for serving distance-dependent context information relating to a defined environment is provided, where the selected context information is finally transmitted to the portable terminal for being processed thereon.
Abstract: The present invention relates to location/position-based context awareness for devices and mobile terminal devices, respectively. In particularly, the present invention relates to an infrastructure entity performing the location/position-based context awareness for a portable terminal device. According to the present invention an infrastructure entity and a method operable therewith for serving distance-dependent context information relating to a defined environment is provided. For instance, terminal/object distances are determined in accordance with a position of a portable terminal, each position of a plurality of objects and a position of an infrastructure entity, which is adapted to serve the aforementioned distance-dependent context information. Context information, which is associated with each of the plurality of object, is provided for being selected. Context information is selected from provided context information on the basis of the determined terminal/object distances. The selected context information is finally transmitted to the portable terminal for being processed thereon.

TL;DR: A novel presence service solution is proposed that presents three original extensions for scalability and quality: a federated model to optimize inter-domain distribution of notification messages through locality-based aggregation, a proposal for differentiated quality levels, and an extension of client-side buffering for reliable delivery of presence messages, even during user roaming.
Abstract: Enterprise mobility and IP multimedia system corporate services are becoming more relevant; in particular, the IMS-based presence service is starting to provide different kinds of seamlessly mobile services, with context awareness in a wide range of enterprise-deployment scenarios. However, the deployment of presence-based enterprise services in wide and heterogeneous wireless networks still faces several challenges. First of all, scalability and differentiated quality are considered crucial, especially under heavy traffic conditions and when dealing with inter-domain mobility scenarios. This article presents an overview of very recent research contributions about the standard IMS presence service and some novel proposals for scalability and quality optimization. In addition, we propose a novel presence service solution that presents three original extensions for scalability and quality: a federated model to optimize inter-domain distribution of notification messages through locality-based aggregation, a proposal for differentiated quality levels, and an extension of client-side buffering for reliable delivery of presence messages, even during user roaming. The prototype of the enhanced presence service has been deployed and validated by obtaining performance results of improved scalability in terms of CPU and memory usage in infrastructure nodes and message traffic. The prototype is openly available to the IMS community for possible refinement and extension.

TL;DR: The proposed architecture (i- ARA) uses principles of the Semantic Web that endow context-awareness and user personalization that allow the supervision and management of what is happening in the environment and, consequently, improve the information offered to users.
Abstract: This paper presents a proposal for supporting daily user needs by simple interactions with the environment through an augmented-reality perspective that applies proactive adaptation through knowledge representation using ontologies. The proposed architecture (i- ARA) uses principles of the Semantic Web that endow context-awareness and user personalization. In addition, these types of services allow the supervision and management of what is happening in the environment and, consequently, improve the information offered to users. The architecture has been used to implement applications using iPhone technology and has been applied to illustrative scenarios, including Ambient Assisted Living.

TL;DR: An approach to make context-aware mobile interaction available in scenarios where users might be looking for categories of points of interest, such as cultural events and restaurants, through remote location-based services is described.
Abstract: Traditional desktop search paradigm often does not fit mobile contexts. Common mobile devices provide impoverished mechanisms for text entry and small screens are able to offer only a limited set of options, therefore the users are not usually able to specify their needs. On a different note, mobile technologies have become part of the everyday life as shown by the estimate of one billion of mobile broadband subscriptions in 2011.This paper describes an approach to make context-aware mobile interaction available in scenarios where users might be looking for categories of points of interest (POIs), such as cultural events and restaurants, through remote location-based services. Empirical evaluations shows how rich representations of user contexts has the chance to increase the relevance of the retrieved POIs.

TL;DR: A new OWL-based temporal formalism - TOWL - for the representation of time, change, and state transitions is introduced and a financial Web-based application centered around the aggregation of stock recommendations and financial data is presented.
Abstract: The emergence of Web 2.0 and the semantic Web as established technologies is fostering a whole new breed of Web applications and systems. These are often centered around knowledge engineering and context awareness. However, adequate temporal formalisms underlying context awareness are currently scarce. Our focus in this paper is two-fold. We first introduce a new OWL-based temporal formalism - TOWL - for the representation of time, change, and state transitions. Based hereon we present a financial Web-based application centered around the aggregation of stock recommendations and financial data.
