TL;DR: In this paper, the spectral efficiency of code-division multiple access with constant envelope modulation in the large system limit was studied. But the spectral performance of CDMA was not compared to the CDMA with continuous phase modulation.
Abstract: This paper studies the spectral efficiency of code-division multiple access with constant envelope modulation in the large system limit. Despite the fact that continuous phase modulation is hit by a severe drawback in spectral efficiency as compared to quadrature amplitude modulation on a single user communication link, the gap in terms of spectral efficiency is found to be negligible when employed on a multiple access channel with the CDMA protocol. Accounting for the efficiency of the transmit amplifier, the latter comparison becomes even favorable for constant envelope modulation.

19 Apr 2000TL;DR: In this article, a phase reference signal for trellis demodulating CPM modulated received signals is established by using phase reference signals and symbol timing estimates, and the estimated transmitted signal is phase shifted to produce phase shifted estimated transmitted signals.
Abstract: A method establishes a phase reference signal for trellis demodulating CPM modulated received signals by using phase reference signals and symbol timing estimates. Branch metrics signals representing the highest-probability path through the trellis are calculated to produce beat estimates of the modulation data. The branch metrics signals are phase shifted to produce phase shifted branch metrics (PSBM) for each path. At each symbol interval, the highest probability PSEM (HPPSBM) signal for the path is selected. The selected phase shifted branch metric adjusts the value of the phase reference signals. Another method estimates the transmitted signal from at least the estimated data and the phase reference signal. The estimated transmitted signal is phase shifted to produce phase shifted estimated transmitted signals, which are correlated with the received data signals to produce phase error signals, which are smoothed and correct the phase reference signal.

16 Dec 2005TL;DR: In this article, a method and apparatus for cyclically extending a continuous phase modulation (CPM) block was proposed, which features transmitting each information symbol and its antipodal counterpart in any order within a data portion of the CPM block.
Abstract: The present invention provides a new and unique method and apparatus for cyclically extending a continuous phase modulation (CPM) block, which features transmitting each information symbol and its antipodal counterpart in any order within a data portion of the continuous phase modulation block. The continuous phase modulation block includes a sequence of N/2 M-ary information symbols that are spread over N symbol intervals, and the cyclic extension includes the first G M-ary symbols sent in the data portion of the block being appended to the continuous phase modulation block.

23 Aug 2004TL;DR: In this paper, a phase lock loop circuit and a continuous phase-lock loop calibration circuit are coupled to produce a continuous calibration signal based on the reference voltage from a reference voltage circuit to calibrate the PLL circuit.
Abstract: A circuit includes a phase lock loop circuit and a continuous phase lock loop calibration circuit. The continuous phase lock loop calibration circuit is operatively coupled to the PLL circuit and produces a continuous calibration signal based on a reference voltage from a reference voltage circuit to calibrate the PLL circuit on a continuous basis.
