TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a new approach based on a modular architecture, where a protocol is no longer monolithic but a composition of modules called micro-protocols, which improves modularity and reusability in interaction protocol engineering.
Abstract: Protocols or part of protocols are frequently reused through projects if they are sufficiently generic. For instance, the Contract Net protocol can be used verbatim or in other protocols such as the supply chain management. This reusability might be difficult to do due to the lack of reusability in current interaction protocol formalisms. In this paper, we present a new approach based on a modular architecture. A protocol is no longer monolithic but a composition of modules called micro-protocols. This approach improves modularity and reusability in interaction protocol engineering. We apply this idea to the example of supply chain management.

TL;DR: The computational experiments show that the EA-MAS, with the integration of shared resource information, is able to provide shared scheduling scheme for distributed manufacturing with a good performance.
Abstract: This paper considers a shared scheduling environment for distributed manufacturing resources. In this paper, we proposed a multi-agent system based approach to promote competition and cooperation among multi-agents and to achieve global optimal scheduling. We first build two multi-agent system (MAS) architectures. One is enterprise multi-agent subsystem (Sub-EMAS) architecture comprises job agents, resource agents and manager agents; the other one is enterprise alliance multi-agent system (EA-MAS) architecture involves the addition of a mediator agent and a scheduling agent. Then we design a Shared Contract Net Protocol (SCNP) to support both the Sub-EMAS and EA-MAS. We propose two heuristic algorithms to solve the scheduling model. The computational experiments show that the EA-MAS, with the integration of shared resource information, is able to provide shared scheduling scheme for distributed manufacturing with a good performance.

TL;DR: In this paper, a multi-agent-based system based on the contract net protocol (CNP) is proposed to achieve a distributed approach to power distribution network restoration, where agents are assigned to areas sectioned by switches and constantly exchange environmental information among themselves.
Abstract: A novel multi-agent-based system based on the contract net protocol (CNP), intended to achieve a distributed approach to power distribution network restoration, is proposed. In the proposed system, agents are assigned to areas sectioned by switches and constantly exchange environmental information among themselves. The information is used to construct a CNP overlay network to guard against network accidents. The parameters of the CNP required for robustness and effectiveness are optimized by the genetic algorithm (GA) in the operation phase. When a network accident occurs, the agents restore power distribution service autonomously through the CNP overlay network constructed. Simulation experiments indicate that CNP allows an effective power distribution network restoration strategy to be created by cooperation among agents. ©2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
