TL;DR: In this paper, focusing of charged particles in the two-electrode electromagnetic mirror with rotational symmetry whose cylindrical electrodes also act as magnetic electrodes has been considered, and the region in variations of geometrical and electrical mirror parameters where the third-order aberration vanishes to zero has been detected.
Abstract: The authors consider focusing of charged particles in the two-electrode electromagnetic mirror with rotational symmetry whose cylindrical electrodes also act as magnetic electrodes. Calculations for different ratios of magnetic and electric components of the electromagnetic field have been made. The region in variations of geometrical and electrical mirror parameters where the third-order aberration vanishes to zero has been detected.

TL;DR: In this paper, a liquid-crystal spatial-light modulator (LC-SLM) was proposed to correct a spherical aberration from an off-axis image electron hologram, where the effective refractive index of the liquid crystals changed by the applied electric field can flexibly compensate for a wave aberration.
Abstract: Electron holography has a potential to overcome the resolution limitation of transmission electron microscopes imposed by a spherical aberration of an electron objective lens. This paper describes a new optical system a liquid-crystal spatial-light modulator (LC-SLM) to correct a spherical aberration from an off-axis electron hologram. The effective refractive index of the liquid crystals changed by the applied electric field can flexibly compensate for a wave aberration. Some experimental results involving the correction of the spherical aberration in an off-axis image electron hologram are presented. Zernike phase contrast method is also realized by the LC-SLM to visualize the phase distribution of a corrected object wave.© (1993) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering. TL;DR: Schroeder et al. as mentioned in this paper used an energy filter to eliminate the inelastically scattered electrons from the image, leading to much clearer pictures at lower dose and also allowing the possibility of correcting accurately for the contrast transfer function.

TL;DR: In this article , the phase-contrast transfer function (PCTF) modifies the phase contrast because it is not unity over all spatial frequency regions; therefore, the amount of phase modulation observed in the image becomes smaller than the actual value.
