TL;DR: In this paper, an algorithm for on-chip identification of free FPL resource for modules, and an approach to onchip rearrangement of modules is presented. But the work represents a key demonstration of how FPL can be used as a first-order computational resource, rather than just as a slave to the microprocessor.
Abstract: Modularity is a key aspect of system design, particularly in the era of system-on-chip Field-programmable logic (FPL), particularly with the rapid increase in programmable gate counts, is a natural medium to host run-time modularity, that is, a dynamically-varying ensemble of circuit modules Prior research has presumed the use of an external processor to manage such an ensemble In this paper, we consider on-chip management, implemented in the FPL itself, based upon a one-dimensional allocation model We demonstrate an algorithm for on-chip identification of free FPL resource for modules, and an approach to on-chip rearrangement of modules The latter includes a proposal for a realistic augmentation to existing FPGA reconfiguration architectures The work represents a key demonstration of how FPL can be used as a first-order computational resource, rather than just as a slave to the microprocessor

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the line losses can be taken into account during the calculation of DT, and the line loss reduction can be realized in a decentralized manner through the DT framework.
Abstract: This paper presents an optimal reconfiguration-based dynamic tariff (DT) method for congestion management and line loss reduction in distribution networks with high penetration of electric vehicles. In the proposed DT concept, feeder reconfiguration (FR) is employed through mixed integer programming when calculating the DT, leading to minimized energy cost and reduced DT as compared with the DT concept without FR. This paper further demonstrates that the line losses can be taken into account during the calculation of DT. As a result, the line loss reduction can be realized in a decentralized manner through the DT framework. Three case studies were conducted to validate the optimal reconfiguration-based DT method for congestion management and line loss reduction in distribution networks.

TL;DR: The experimental results show that the presented architecture can be easily deployed to build smart manufacturing system and can improve the adaptiveness and robustness of the manufacturing system when dealing with mixed multi-product tasks.
Abstract: The fourth industrial revolution involves the advanced topics, such as industrial Internet of Things, cyber-physical system and smart manufacturing that address increasing demands for mass customized manufacturing. The agent-based manufacturing is a highly distributed control paradigm that can cope with these challenges well. This paper gives an overview of agent-based architectures for manufacturing systems. Besides, a cloud-assisted self-organized architecture is presented by comprising smart agents and cloud to communicate and negotiate through networks. Ontological representations of knowledge base are constructed to provide the information basis for decision-making of agents, which enables dynamic reconfiguration among agents in a collaborative way to achieve agility and flexibility. Furthermore, the agents’ interaction behavior is modeled to structure the agents hierarchically to reduce the complexity, because the interactions among agents in distributed system are difficult to understand and predict. The experimental results show that the presented architecture can be easily deployed to build smart manufacturing system and can improve the adaptiveness and robustness of the manufacturing system when dealing with mixed multi-product tasks.

TL;DR: This paper is the first multiagent system reference architecture for reconfigurable manufacturing systems driven by a quantitative and formal design approach and is rooted in an established engineering design methodology called axiomatic design for large flexible engineering systems and draws upon design principles distilled from prior works on reconfigurability measurement.
Abstract: In recent years, the fields of reconfigurable manufacturing systems, holonic manufacturing systems, and multiagent systems have made technological advances to support the ready reconfiguration of automated manufacturing systems. While these technological advances have demonstrated robust operation and been qualitatively successful in achieving reconfigurability, their ultimate industrial adoption remains limited. Among the barriers to adoption has been the relative absence of formal and quantitative multiagent system design methodologies based on reconfigurability measurement. Hence, it is not clear that the degree to which these designs have achieved their intended level of reconfigurability, which systems are indeed quantitatively more reconfigurable, and how these designs may overcome their design limitations to achieve greater reconfigurability in subsequent design iterations. To our knowledge, this paper is the first multiagent system reference architecture for reconfigurable manufacturing systems driven by a quantitative and formal design approach. It is rooted in an established engineering design methodology called axiomatic design for large flexible engineering systems and draws upon design principles distilled from prior works on reconfigurability measurement. The resulting architecture is written in terms of the mathematical description used in reconfigurability measurement, which straightforwardly allows instantiation for system-specific application.
