TL;DR: New mixed-integer quadratic, quadratically constrained, and second-order cone programming models of distribution system reconfiguration are derived, which are to date the first formulations of the ac problem that have convex, continuous relaxations.
Abstract: We derive new mixed-integer quadratic, quadratically constrained, and second-order cone programming models of distribution system reconfiguration, which are to date the first formulations of the ac problem that have convex, continuous relaxations. Each model can be reliably and efficiently solved to optimality using standard commercial software. In the course of deriving each model, we obtain original quadratically constrained and second-order cone approximations to power flow in radial networks.

TL;DR: In this paper, a decentralized, model predictive control algorithm for the optimal guidance and reconfiguration of swarms of spacecraft composed of hundreds to thousands of agents with limited capabilities is presented.
Abstract: DOI: 10.2514/1.G000218 This paper presents a decentralized, model predictive control algorithm for the optimal guidance and reconfiguration of swarms of spacecraft composed of hundreds to thousands of agents with limited capabilities. In previous work, J2-invariantorbitshavebeenfoundtoprovidecollision-freemotionforhundredsoforbitsinalowEarthorbit. This paper develops real-time optimal control algorithms for the swarm reconfiguration that involve transferring from one J2-invariant orbit to another while avoidingcollisions and minimizing fuel. The proposedmodel predictive control-sequential convex programming algorithm uses sequential convex programming to solve a series of approximate path planning problems until the solution converges. By updating the optimal trajectories during the reconfiguration, the model predictive control algorithm results in decentralized computations and communication between neighboring spacecraft only. Additionally, model predictive control reduces the horizon of the convex optimizations, which reduces the run time of the algorithm. Multiple time steps, time-varying collision constraints, and communication requirements are developed to guarantee stability, feasibility, and robustness of the model predictive control-sequential convex programming algorithm.

TL;DR: In this paper, a best-first tree search strategy based on heuristics is used to evaluate the various switching operations available and a rule-based system aimed at the reduction of the search space is presented as a means of implementing the above strategy.
Abstract: A method for feeder reconfiguration with the potential for handling realistic operating constraints is presented. The approach taken is to set up a decision tree to represent the various switching operations available. A best-first tree searching strategy, based on heuristics, is used to evaluate the various alternatives. Switching options which could result in overloads, voltage problems, or other operating constraints, such as those associated with system protection, are quickly eliminated as possibilities. The development of a rule-based system aimed at the reduction of the search space is presented as a means of implementing the above strategy. An example is used to illustrate the concepts described. >

TL;DR: In this paper, a fault estimation and compensation method was proposed to compensate for actuator and sensor faults in highly automated systems. But the method is limited to the case when there is a complete loss of an actuator.
Abstract: The general fault-tolerant control method described in the article addresses actuator and sensor faults, which often affect highly automated systems. These faults correspond to a loss of actuator effectiveness or fault sensor measurements. After describing these faults, a fault estimation and compensation method was proposed. In addition to providing information to operators concerning the system operating conditions, the fault diagnosis module is especially important in fault-tolerant control systems where one needs to know exactly which element is faulty to react safely. The method's abilities to compensate for such faults are illustrated by applying it to a winding machine, which represents a subsystem of many industrial systems. The results show that once the fault is detected and isolated, it is easy to reduce its effect on the system, and process control is resumed with degraded performances close to nominal ones. Thus, stopping the system immediately can be avoided. However, the limits of this method are reached when there is the complete loss of an actuator. In this case, only a hardware redundancy is effective and could ensure performance reliability. The method proposed here assumes the availability of the state variables for measurement.

TL;DR: The motivations, design, architecture, configuration examples of Grid'5000, a 5000 CPUs nation-wide infrastructure for research in Grid computing, are described and performance results for the reconfiguration subsystem are described.
Abstract: Large scale distributed systems like Grids are difficult to study only from theoretical models and simulators. Most Grids deployed at large scale are production platforms that are inappropriate research tools because of their limited reconfiguration, control and monitoring capabilities. In this paper, we present Grid'5000, a 5000 CPUs nation-wide infrastructure for research in Grid computing. Grid'5000 is designed to provide a scientific tool for computer scientists similar to the large-scale instruments used by physicists, astronomers and biologists. We describe the motivations, design, architecture, configuration examples of Grid'5000 and performance results for the reconfiguration subsystem.
