TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a new method for the state estimation of electric power distribution system conditions oriented towards working with minimum number of remote measurements available in the network, which will require information concerning the network reconfiguration, remote measurements of voltages, real and reactive power as well as feeder currents in distribution substations.
Abstract: This paper proposes a new method for the state estimation of electric power distribution system conditions oriented towards working with minimum number of remote measurements available in the network. This approach will require information concerning the network reconfiguration, remote measurements of voltages, real and reactive power as well as feeder currents in distribution substations. All kinds of statistical information pertaining to distribution transformer loads are used together with real-time remote measurements. In the proposed method, the existing scheme configuration is examined by a configuration pre-screening process based on the addressed references in an oriented graph. The permissible intervals for remote measurement errors and the reliability of statistical information are discussed. A practical example is presented and the exploitation of results has proved its accuracy and efficiency. >

TL;DR: A component-based modelling approach to system-software co-engineering of real-time embedded systems, in particular aerospace systems, centred around the standardized Architecture Analysis and Design Language (AADL) modelling framework is presented.
Abstract: This paper presents a component-based modelling approach to system-software co-engineering of real-time embedded systems, in particular aerospace systems. Our method is centred around the standardized Architecture Analysis and Design Language (AADL) modelling framework. We formalize a significant subset of AADL, incorporating its recent Error Model Annex for modelling faults and repairs. The major distinguishing aspects of this component-based approach are the possibility to describe nominal hardware and software operations, hybrid (and timing) aspects, as well as probabilistic faults and their propagation and recovery. Moreover, it supports dynamic (i.e. on-the-fly) reconfiguration of components and inter-component connections. The operational semantics gives a precise interpretation of specifications by providing a mapping onto networks of event-data automata. These networks are then subject to different kinds of formal analysis such as model checking, safety and dependability analysis and performance evaluation. Mature tool support realizes these analyses. The activities reported in this paper are carried out in the context of the correctness, modelling, and performance of aerospace systems, project which is funded by the European Space Agency.

TL;DR: The layered queueing network (LQN) model is described here in a unified fashion, including its many more extensions to match the semantics of sophisticated practical distributed and parallel systems.
Abstract: Layered queues are a canonical form of extended queueing network for systems with nested multiple resource possession, in which successive depths of nesting define the layers. The model has been applied to most modern distributed systems, which use different kinds of client-server and master-slave relationships, and scales up well. The layered queueing network (LQN) model is described here in a unified fashion, including its many more extensions to match the semantics of sophisticated practical distributed and parallel systems. These include efficient representation of replicated services, parallel and quorum execution, and dependability analysis under failure and reconfiguration. The full LQN model is defined here and its solver is described. A substantial case study to an air traffic control system shows errors (compared to simulation) of a few percent. The LQN model is compared to other models and solutions, and is shown to cover all their features.

TL;DR: In this paper, a survey on fault-tolerant control for variable speed drives (VSD), mainly addressing DC and induction motors, is presented, where fault diagnosis, accommodation and hardware reconfiguration are reviewed with application to VSD.
Abstract: A survey on fault-tolerant control is presented for variable speed drives (VSD), mainly addressing DC and induction motors. Thus, fault diagnosis, accommodation and hardware reconfiguration are reviewed with application to VSD. First, the most common fault scenarios in these electrical machines are described. These conditions are analysed, and their implications and mathematical modelling are discussed. Next, the fault diagnosis strategies based on signal processing, model-based techniques and artificial intelligence are reviewed. Moreover, the diverse hardware reconfiguration schemes of power actuators with semiconductor failures are detailed. A key piece in any VSD is the control algorithm, which can be severely affected in a fault condition. Finally, the fault accommodation schemes suggested so far in the literature are illustrated.

TL;DR: In this article, a meta-heuristic cuckoo search algorithm (CSA) inspired from the obligate brood parasitism of some Cuckoo species which lay their eggs in the nests of other birds of other species for solving optimization problems is adapted to simultaneously reconfigure and identify the optimal location and size of DG units in a distribution network.
