TL;DR: In this paper, a central data processor, a control unit for each gaming machine within the system, and a user interface which includes a keypad, a card reader and a display.
Abstract: An information and communication system permits communication between gaming machines and a central control system and between a player or operator and a central control system. The system includes a central data processor, a control unit for each gaming machine within the system which is in communication with the central data processor and a user interface which includes a keypad, a card reader and a display. A user interface is secured to each gaming machine and operatively connected to the control unit. The keypad can be used by a player or operator to transmit information to the central data processor. The control unit can be used to identify special players and transmits messages, including promotional messages, for display. The control unit includes memory which contains personality data for the gaming machine and can be used to transmit the personality data from the user interface to its memory. The control unit can accept personality data from a card inserted into the card reader and can be enabled by a personal identification number entered on the keypad. The system provides multiple features including automated maintenance, game accounting, security, player tracking, event tracking, employee/player interaction from the game to the central data processor, cashless operation of gaming machines, reserving gaming machines and other functions.

Abstract: A multimedia bidirectional broadcast system including a broadcast station (115) and subscriber terminals (116). The broadcast station (115) includes a main control unit (106) having therein a data base control table (134) in which program and commercial down load sequences are recorded depending on a setting effected by a subscriber, a motion picture program data base (102), a commercial data base (131), a program transmitter (103) for effecting accesses and transmissions of transmission programs onto transmission lines based on the setting of the main control unit (106), a commercial transmitter (132) for accessing the commercial data base (131) and for transmitting content thereof based on the setting of the main control unit (106), an image encoder (107) for achieving a bandwidth compression on a video signal, a cell assembler (108) for processing data to be transmitted onto a broadband transmission line so as to generate a cell of the data, and an asynchronous transfer mode exchange (109) for delivering the cell to a subscriber system (116) associated therewith. Each of the subscriber systems (116) includes a network terminal (111), a terminal control unit (113), a decoder (112) to decode the compressed video signal, and a television monitor (114).

TL;DR: In this article, a device which is used in the sterile area and which is provided for controlling an electric appliance that is provided in the non-sterile area, whereby the sterile areas is essentially separated from the nonsterile areas by a cloth-like covering, is characterized in that at least one sensor (8) that is sensitive to magnetic fields and the unit that generates a magnetic field are separated from one another.
Abstract: The invention relates to a device which is used in the sterile area and which is provided for controlling an electric appliance that is provided in the non-sterile area, whereby the sterile area is essentially separated from the non-sterile area by a cloth-like covering means (1) The invention is characterized in that at least one sensor (8) that is sensitive to magnetic fields is provided in the non-sterile area, and a unit that generates a magnetic field is provided in the sterile area In addition, the sensor (8) that is sensitive to magnetic fields and the unit that generates a magnetic field are separated from one another by at least the cloth-like covering means (1) The unit that generates a magnetic field is arranged opposite the sensor (8) that is sensitive to magnetic fields in such a manner that a spatial and/or temporal alteration of the magnetic field induced by the unit that generates a magnetic field can be detected by the sensor (8) that is sensitive to magnetic fields, thus enabling a sensor signal to be generated A control unit (9) is also provided which, according to the sensor signal, generates a control signal for controlling the electric appliance (10)

TL;DR: In this paper, a surgical power tool is disclosed including a power console and a handheld motor unit including variable speed, speed range, forward/reverse, and safety, which can be operated by the surgeon's finger pressure on discrete portions of the flexible wall.
Abstract: A surgical power tool is disclosed including a power console and a handheld motor unit. The power console provides controlled power and to the handheld motor unit. Pressure sensitive switching elements on the handheld unit provide signals to the power console which are transformed into operating power to the motor unit including variable speed, speed range, forward/reverse, and safety. The handheld motor unit includes a chuck or tool receptacle and a Hall effect or other radiation field detector which response to the presence of a magnet or other radiation device as a part of the surgical tool, to identify the tool installed and provide a control signal to the motor, e.g., speed range limitation. The handheld motor unit housing is sealed and autoclavable. The housing for the handheld unit includes a flexible wall section lying over pressure sensitive switches and variable resistance whereby the surgeon's finger pressure on discrete portions of the flexible wall provide motor control including speed control, direction of operation, speed range selection and a SAFE, i.e., locked off position. Multiple handheld motor units may be simultaneously operated and controlled individually by their handheld controls or selectively by the power supply and control unit. Footswitch control is also disclosed.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for controlling a direct current motor (30) in one or several fan units (43, 20, 21), each comprising a fan, is presented. But this method is limited to the case of a single motor.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for control of a direct current motor (30) in one or several fan units (43, 20, 21), each comprising a fan, which method comprises: generation of a control signal from a first control unit (22) which is external in relation to the said fan unit (43, 20, 21); transmission of the said control signal to the said fan unit (43, 20, 21); reception of the transmitted control signal in the said fan unit (43, 20, 21); interpretation of the said control signal in a second control unit (26) which is arranged in association with the said fan unit (43, 20, 21); and generation, in the said second control unit (26), of a supply signal for the said direct current motor (30), on the basis of the control signal generated by the first control unit (22) and received in the fan unit and on the basis of a supply voltage. According to the invention, the method comprises transmission of the control signal together with the supply voltage over a shared communication link (44), with the control signal being superposed on the supply voltage. The invention also relates to an arrangement for such control. By means of the invention, improved control is obtained of a motor that can be utilized in a ventilated seat in a vehicle.
