Journal ArticleDOI
Abstract: The structure of crystalline Hg (SCH3)2 has been determined by x‐ray diffraction analysis. The dimensions of the unit cell are: a=19.80 A; b=7.58 A; c=7.80 A. There are eight formula units per unit cell and the space group is D2h15, Pbca. The packing of the simple formula units in the crystal suggests the compound is a coordination polymer involving weak mercaptide bridges. Each mercury has two closest sulfur atoms with Hg–S=2.36 A and three sulfurs with Hg–S=3.26 A, comprising an irregular tetragonal pyramidal configuration.
