Abstract: Core self-evaluations (CSE), a broad personality construct, has recently generated a great deal of research attention. However, while CSE has been found to be related to numerous relevant work outcomes (e.g., job satisfaction and job performance) and appears to be growing in its theoretical importance to the understanding of behavior at work, its relationship to Affective Commitment (AC) has not been investigated. Our results demonstrated that while CSE and AC are indeed related that, in order to fully understand this relationship, both job satisfaction and perceived job characteristics must also be considered since both fully mediate the CSE – AC relationship.

Abstract: A B ST R A C T In spite of its popularity, the Big Five Personality has been criticized for being too descriptive to provide a theoretical model of personality. The current study aims to investigate the extent to which personality and demographic variables contribute to motivation, competitiveness and job satisfaction as defined by measuring their personality, work motivation and satisfaction. This paper shows that conscientiousness and job status were both significant predictors of job satisfaction. All acknowledgement that individual differences can affect the success of an intervention, may contribute to the design of effective work reorganisation schemes that are better suited to the employees they seek to benefit. Originality. The value of this paper was that it looked at how personality and demographic factors may influence work motivation, level of competitiveness and work satisfaction.

Abstract: The present study examined the mediating effect of work-family conflict on the relationships between job demands, life satisfaction and job satisfaction, and the moderating effect of psychological capital on the relationship between job demands and work-family conflict in the Chinese context. Two hundred and fifty middle-level managers from Chinese state-owned enterprises were recruited to complete a battery of self-report measures of work demands, work-family conflict, psychological capital, life satisfaction and job satisfaction. The results indicated that the effects of job demands on life and job satisfaction were fully mediated by work-family conflict. However, psychological capital did not moderate the relationship between job demands and work-family conflict. The implications of the results were discussed.
