Abstract: In June 1977 the Washington Business Group on Health reported the results of its first survey of employee mental wellness programs.1 Although far from comprehensive, that survey established a clear pattern of program growth, sophistication, and concern for the relationship between mental well-being and hospital-surgical-medical utilization. The corporate, professional, and governmental reactions to those findings caused WBGH to undertake a more extensive survey of many more companies.
