TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus for promoting direct contact between flowing gases and solid particles was proposed, in which the particles are subjected to electrostatic forces in a way that enables the gases and the solid particles to flow in countercurrent directions, with virtually no carryover of fine particles in the outgoing gases.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for promoting direct contact between flowing gases 9 and
solid particles 15. The particles are subjected to electrostatic forces in a way that
allows the gases and solid particles 34 to flow in countercurrent directions, even at
high gas velocities, with virtually no carryover of fine particles in the outgoing gases
14. Time alternating electrostatic forces are imposed by means of a high voltage
power supply 4, corona discharge electrode 3, and electrically grounded surface 8,
resulting in reciprocating particle motion that enhances the gas to solid contact, and
thus the heat and mass transfer rates.

TL;DR: In this paper, the factors controlling the countercurrent flow behavior in a single channel and parallel channels are evaluated, and a method is developed to predict flow patterns in parallel channels from single channel characteristics such as pressure drop through the channel and flooding data at upper and lower entries.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of packing properties on the flowing solids dynamic holdup in the countercurrent gas-flowing solids-fixed bed reactor was investigated, and correlations for the prediction of flowing soliders dynamic hold up in preloading and loading regimes were proposed.

TL;DR: In this article, the heat transfer coefficients between gas and solid particles in a countercurrent gas-solid contactor with regularly arranged baffle plates have been obtained by temperature profiles and from the heat balance equations in consideration of heat loss through the wall.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present the results of an experimental investigation of the hydrodynamics of a countercurrent packed-bed column exposed to a step change in the liquid flow rate.
Abstract: This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation of the hydrodynamics of a countercurrent packed-bed column exposed to a step change in the liquid flow rate. For the first time in the literature, this paper reports observations of the overshoots of the transient curves of pressure as well as liquid holdup when the change in the liquid rate brings the hydrodynamic regime of the bed close to the flooding line. The experimental technique indicated that column flooding did not appear to occur, even temporarily. The experimental transient curves for the pressure along the packed section, the total pressure drop across the column, and the liquid holdup are interpreted in terms of a simple three-parameter transfer function. Plots of the magnitude of the overshoot and the instant of its appearance as functions of the gas-to-liquid mass flow rate ratio are presented and analyzed. On the basis of these results, the existence of a pressure overshoot is attributed to the extra energy required for redi...
