TL;DR: In this paper, the mass exchange in countercurrent motion and ideal displacement of the phases on a plate when the vapor and incoming liquid that leave an ideal plate are in the equilibrium state are considered.
Abstract: Consideration is given to the mass exchange in countercurrent motion and ideal displacement of the phases on a plate when the vapor and incoming liquid that leave an ideal plate are in the equilibrium state. In the complex model of mass exchange proposed, the compositions of the flows on the ideal and actual plates coincide at a certain distance from the site of injection of the phases. Equality of the efficiencies in the vapor and liquid phases in countercurrent motion of them is proved. Certain particular and boundary cases of the complex model are considered. Corresponding relations of the efficiencies are derived. The countercurrent complex model and the fields of its application are analyzed.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors derived the temperature distribution and pure water productivity in a parallel-plate direct contact membrane distillation module under countercurrent-flow with the use of the mass balance on each subchannel.
Abstract: The modeling equations for the temperature distribution and pure water productivity in a parallel-plate direct contact membrane distillation module under countercurrent-flow were derived theoretically with the use of the mass balance on each subchannel. The analytical solution is obtained by using the separated variables method with an orthogonal expansion technique extended in power series. The pure water productivity, average Nusselt number, and temperature distributions of both hot and cold feed streams are represented graphically with the feed velocity and the inlet saline temperature as parameters. The improvements of device performance were achieved under the countercurrent-flow operation. The influences of operation and design parameters on the pure water productivity are also discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, a stable converging algorithm is proposed for calculating the parameters of heat transfer between heat-transfer media with highly variable properties in a countercurrent heat exchanger, based on a stable convergence algorithm that minimizes a given functional and is similar to the shooting method for solving ordinary differential equations.
Abstract: A method is developed for calculating the parameters of heat transfer between heat-transfer media with highly variable properties in a countercurrent heat exchanger. It is based on a stable converging algorithm that minimizes a given functional and is similar to the shooting method for solving ordinary differential equations. Heat-transfer parameters are calculated for sub- and supercritical pressures. The calculated results are compared with observed data.
