TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose to improve the behavior and reliability of maintenance work by executing the maintenance of an information processor while referring to maintenance guidance information stored in the processor on a screen.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the behavior and reliability of maintenance work by executing the maintenance of an information processor while referring to maintenance guidance information stored in the processor on a screen. CONSTITUTION: The opened/closed state of a cover 2 is detected by a cover open/close detecting means 6 based upon an output from a sensor 5 to be turned on/off in accordance with the open/close of the cover 2. When the means 6 detects the opened state of the cover 2, a maintenance guidance information display controlling means 9 reads out prescribed guidance information from a file means 7, displays the information on the screen of a display device 3 and updates and controls the displayed contents of the maintenance guidance information interactively in cooperation with the display device 3 and an input device 4. When a cover for the information processor or a cover for an I/O device such as a printer is opened, guitance information is automatically displayed on the screen of the display device, so that even when a maintenance manual is not prepared, necessary information can be instantaneously obtained and maintenance work can be started. TL;DR: The steps for modelling databases for geographic information systems using the paradigm of object orientation are discussed, discussing the needs for proper support at the implementation and design stage.
Abstract: Geographic information systems demand the processing of complex data using specialized operations, not available in traditional database systems. Even though there exist commercial systems that provide some of these facilities, there is a lack of proper support, which should cover not only the implementation but also the design stage. This paper answers this latter need, discussing the steps for modelling databases for geographic information systems using the paradigm of object orientation.

TL;DR: The TRANSCOM System for Managing Incidents and Traffic (TRANSMIT) was initiated to establish the feasibility of using Electronic Toll and Traffic Management equipment for traffic surveillance and incident detection applications.
Abstract: The TRANSCOM System for Managing Incidents and Traffic (TRANSMIT) was initiated to establish the feasibility of using Electronic Toll and Traffic Management (ETTM) equipment for traffic surveillance and incident detection applications. ETTM technology offers the potential for using vehicles equipped with toll tags to serve as vehicle probes within the traffic stream of the area for which surveillance is being established. It requires the installation of readers with the capability of identifying the "tagged" vehicles, at periodic intervals along the roadway. The TRANSMIT system offers significant opportunities for future growth. This growth can include geographic expansion to cover additional roadways within the greater New York City area.

TL;DR: In this paper, a snap-on cover assembly is presented to protect and designate connections made in connector block and bracket assemblies of the type used in the telephonic and related data communications industry.
Abstract: A snap-on cover assembly is presented to protect and designate connections made in connector block and bracket assemblies of the type used in the telephonic and related data communications industry. Four resilient latches integral with the one piece snap-on cover are insertable in and form a friction fit with the underside surface of four generally rectangular supporting platforms of a 110 type connector block. Removal of the snap-on cover is accomplished by simply pulling the cover from the connector block, and releasing the latches from frictional engagement with the underside surfaces of the aforementioned supporting platforms of the connector block. The cover of this invention is particularly well suited for snap-lock engagement to well-known type "110" terminal blocks. The covers presented are 50 and 100-pair preferred embodiments. The cover provides protection from unauthorized access and any other undesirable contact with the circuitry. Moreover, a receptacle for snap-in colored or coded tabs is provided for color coding circuitry.

TL;DR: In this article, an intelligent (IFAX) facsimile system is proposed, where a stored set including a plurality of cover pages to be transmitted as a cover page of a message is maintained and the cover page is transmitted therefrom.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intelligent (IFAX) facsimile wherein a stored set including a plurality of cover pages to be transmitted as a cover page of a facsimile message is maintained and the cover page is transmitted therefrom. SOLUTION: A user interface element 18 indicates a plurality of menus on a display screen, so that a user can select from the menus. The IFAX can store a plurality of digital cover pages to minimize transmission time for a facsimile cover page. The user may also select from a list of stored digital cover pages. The user may also attach a binary data file to a facsimile message and transfer the data to another facsimile machine. The IFAX uses a storage location for storing outgoing facsimile messages. The IFAX periodically checks the storage location to determine if more than one facsimile message is to be transmitted to the same location and transmits the messages in one facsimile telephone call.
