TL;DR: In this article, a computer-based system and method for providing immediate feedback to the user in an interactive television system is presented, where each program can have a "cover bundle" for "covering" the delay between user selection of the program and the program's availability.
Abstract: A computer-based system and method for providing immediate feedback to the user in an interactive television system. The system presents interactive programs to a user; each program can have a "cover bundle" for "covering" the delay between user selection of the program and the program's availability. When a user requests a program having a cover bundle, the cover bundle is downloaded first. The cover bundle provides a simple presentation (e.g., a short movie, music, and the like) to keep the user engaged while the requested program downloads.

TL;DR: In this paper, an operating button device provided in the cover exposes, when the cover is closed, its operating surface from the surface of the cover, thus, major function entry or data entry can be carried out.
Abstract: In a unit body of a portable information terminal is assembled a display and a pressure-sensitive input device overlying the display. An opening and closing cover is attached to the unit body for covering the pressure-sensitive input device. An operating button device provided in the cover exposes, when the cover is closed, its operating surface from the surface of the cover. The operating button device exerts a pressing force applied to the operating surface onto the surface of the pressure-sensitive input device. Thus, with the cover closed, major function entry or data entry can be carried out.

TL;DR: A while-you-wait process which takes a book buyer's picture and inserts it, with a caption, onto the back of a purchased book's paper-cover is described in this paper.
Abstract: A while you wait process which takes a book buyer's picture and inserts it, with a caption, onto the back of a purchased book's paper-cover. The customer looks into a video camera and/or supplies a photograph, which is scanned into a computer. The book's cover is also entered into the computer and is there edited to incorporate the picture and the text of a caption. The customized cover is then achieved on the store's printer. Alternatively, a publisher provides paper book-covers containing spaces free of text and graphics. The customer's captioned pictures are then printed onto these voids.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method to prevent an error from being displayed inadvertently for greater ease of use by detecting the setting condition of a switching mechanism on a conveying route, and displaying an error when a normal setting condition is not detected before counting by a counting means has completed.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent an error from being displayed inadvertently for greater ease of use by detecting the setting condition of a switching mechanism on a conveying route, and displaying an error when a normal setting condition is not detected before counting by a counting means has completed. CONSTITUTION:The document paper which has been read by an image sensor 451 is conveyed by a platen roller 5 and a conveying roller 7. Subsequent conveyance is conducted either in such a direction as the document paper is conveyed in a U-turn with a conveying route switching cover 31 closed or in such a direction as the document paper is conveyed straight-forwardly with the cover 31 opened. At that time, the opened or closed condition of the cover 31 is detected with ON or OFF of sensors S3, S4. When the conveying route switching cover 31 is opened or closed incompletely, both the sensors S3, S4 are turned off and a timer begins counting. It is not until no change in incompletely open or close condition is confirmed after waiting for a specific period that an error display is made on an operation panel.

TL;DR: The Internet can be useful, but users should not expect too much.
Abstract: How can operations research/management science (OR/MS) professionals take advantage of the Internet, a global network of computers? One avenue is communication forums—e-mail list servers and Usenet news groups—for networking with professionals from OR/MS and other areas. The second avenue is accessing and creating repositories that archive information, such as software, technical papers, and conference programs. Online lists cover both repositories and forums. Tools allow users to access these repositories and to share information with research collaborators around the world. The Internet can be useful, but users should not expect too much.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed an approach to monitor a maintenance state in a manhole from above the ground without entering the hole even in the case of the hole of a double cover structure having not only an outer cover but also an intermediate cover.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily monitor a maintenance state in a manhole from above the ground without entering the hole even in the case of the hole of a double cover structure having not only an outer cover but also an intermediate cover. CONSTITUTION:Maintenance information in a manhole 1 such as an underground transmission line 2, etc., collected by a sensor 92 is transmitted to a specific low power type radio transmitter 8 to be stipulated by The Radio Law through a sensor signal processor 91, and transmitted as a radio signal from a radio oscillator 8. Transmission power of the signal is extracted by a repeating antenna 61 installed on the lower surface of an intermediate cover 5, matched by an impedance matching circuit 62, and then supplied to an outer cover 4 through electrostatic capacity C between an electrode 71 connected to an output terminal exposed at the upper surface side of the cover 5 and the cover 4. Thus, the cover 4 is operated as the function of an antenna, and the signal is radiated externally of the hole 1. The signal is received by a radio receiver 100 on the ground side to grasp the state in the hole 1.

TL;DR: In this article, a well cover for maintaining underground pipelines is proposed, where one end of an anti-theft iron chain is attached with a connector on the well cover, and the other end is connected with the connector of the well ring, so the utility model can have an antitheft function.
Abstract: The utility model relates to a well cover for various wells for maintaining underground pipelines. At present, a well cover which is used is a separate type and is easy to steal; due to the rolling of the external force of cars, etc., the well cover and a well ring are misplaced; thus, traffic accidents are usually happened to cause personal casualties. One end of an anti-theft iron chain is connected with a connector on the well cover, and the other end is connected with the connector of the well ring, so the utility model can have an anti-theft function. By the application of the well cover and a boss on the well ring, the well cover for various wells for maintaining underground pipelines can prevent a misplacement phenomenon under the external force.
