TL;DR: In this paper, a Personal Intelligent Communicator (PIC) is attached to the outside of a protective cover and can be operated either with the user interface of a mobile telephone handset or with a graphical user interface.
Abstract: A mechanical keypad is attached to the outside of a protective cover. A switch allows a personal intelligent communicator to be operated either with the user interface of a mobile telephone handset or with a graphical user interface. When the cover is closed, the mechanical keypad serves for dialing telephone numbers. When the cover is open, the mechanical keypad is disabled, and the graphical user interface is revealed. The microphone and speaker of the personal intelligent communicator together operate as a speaker phone when the cover is open, and as a mobile telephone handset when the cover is closed. By use of an override switch, the personal intelligent communicator can also operate as a speaker phone when the cover is open.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed an information input/display device which can be utilized with blind touch in the case of inputting information and grasping display information even while watching a working object.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information input/display device which can be utilized with blind touch in the case of inputting information and grasping display information even while watching a working object. SOLUTION: As a touch panel part 1, a touch display is used for display and input and a cover part 2 having a cover plane tightly adhered to the touch display is provided. A bundle A1 of optical fibers is arranged at this cover part 2, the position and form of an input block are judged from block information A7 by a block recognizing function 32 of a cover control part 3, and the length of the optical fiber corresponding to the relevant position is controlled by an actuator A1. Thus, ruggedness is formed on the cover plane, the blocks of mutually different touches are provided, and the blind touch can be utilized according to these touches. On the other hand, image information A8 is outputted from the top ends of optical fibers on the cover plane by an image information transmitting function 31 of the cover control part 3.

TL;DR: In this paper, a sliding-type cover is used to facilitate the opening/closing of a cover by means of one hand during a call and changing the size of a display area and the direction of display by using a cover position.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly use an information terminal equipment by adopting a sliding-type cover so as to facilitate the opening/closing of a cover by means of one hand during a call and changing the size of a display area and the direction of display by means of a cover position. SOLUTION: A cover switch is used as a position detecting means for detecting the position of the cover 7, a mode becomes the telephone one at the time of a cover closing state and the information terminal one at the time of cover opening state and it is used as the information terminal equipment. In a state where the cover 7 is closed, a telephone keyboard 6 can be used but the only lower part of a liquid crystal display 4 is exposed and only the exposed part is used. In the meantime, in a state where the cover 7 is opened, the whole liquid crystal display 4 is exposed but the telephone keyboard 6 is hidden. Then, in this state, a system is normally rotated by 90 deg. and used by permitting its right side to be this side. That is, a whole area becomes the display possible area of the display 4 and the rotation processing by 90 deg. of a character and a sign to be displayed is executed.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose to validate a function with only user's direct mechanical operation and give such structure that the function invalidating operation is automatically performed after the end of work.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To enable a user to use a device without the anxiety about his privacy by validating a function with only user's direct mechanical operation and giving such structure that the function invalidating operation is automatically performed after the end of work. CONSTITUTION: When starting the use, the user grasps a cover knob part 6 to slide a cover part 2 upward. When the cover part 2 is fully pulled up, an iron plate 5 is attracted to an electromagnet 4, and the cover part 2 is kept open. A picture input part 1 is validated by this operation, and the user can start photographing a picture. When he will terminate the use of the picture input device, he grasps the cover knob part 6 to pull down the cover part 2 or the operation of the electromagnet 4 is stopped based on the support signal from a host computer. Thus, the electromagnet 4 loses the attraction, and the cover part 2 falls downward by its own weight and is moved to the position to shield the picture input part 1. The direct mechanical force is required to open the cover, and the start of operation without user's knowledge doesn't occur.

We want the Journal to be accessible and reader friendly and to offer high-quality articles dealing with all aspects of physical therapy. Credibility and readability are not mutually exclusive. They enhance each other. Our cover should reflect who and what we are. But the cover is only the packaging.…
