TL;DR: In this paper, a method for removing fixed pattern noise from composite media signals is proposed, which can be used to improve detection and recovery of a watermark in watermarking applications.
Abstract: A method of removing fixed pattern noise derives an estimate of fixed pattern noise from a composite media signal and uses the estimate to evaluate and remove fixed pattern noise from selected frames. The technique is particularly suited for removing fixed pattern noise in images due to image capture processes, but applies to other media signals as well. In watermarking applications, the method can be used to improve detection and recovery of a watermark. Also, it may be used to remove components of a watermark or a watermark from a cover signal that contains two or more different watermarks.

TL;DR: In this paper, a fax cover sheet is used to index and label documents prior to scanning/imaging and then use dynamically generated fax cover sheets and a fax machine to create digital images of the paper-based documents.
Abstract: The present invention allows users to index and label documents prior to scanning/imaging and then use dynamically generated fax cover sheets and a fax machine to create digital images of the paper-based documents. Each dynamically-generated fax cover sheet will contain a globally unique document identifier and, if desired, other relevant document-specific or user-specific information. The document-specific information and the user-specific information is contained in dynamic content zones on the fax cover sheet. Each dynamically-generated fax cover sheet generated by the digital filing system will be globally unique, with respect to at least one of the dynamic content zones and no two dynamically-generated fax cover sheets will ever be identical. In addition, each dynamically-generated fax cover sheet may also contain static content zones which contain information that will be duplicated over a certain range of dynamically-generated fax cover sheets.

TL;DR: In this article, a touch-screen cover is used to cover the part of the touch screen which the monitor does not cover, and when the cover is removed it exposes the parts of the screen which are not covered by the monitor.
Abstract: A wireless telephone (100) has a video monitor (106) which is thin enough for a touch-screen (112) to slide partially beneath it, with enough room for a touch-screen-cover (110) to slide between them. The touch-screen-cover, when not slid between the touch-screen and the monitor, covers the part of the touch-screen which the monitor does not cover. When the touch-screen-cover is slid between the touch-screen and the monitor, it exposes the parts of the touch-screen which are not covered by the monitor, and it allows the touch-screen to be slid completely out from underneath the monitor, thereby exposing all of the touch-screen. Thus, the touch-screen may be completely covered, partially covered, or completely uncovered. Each covering configuration is suited for a different set of wireless telephone capabilities.

TL;DR: In this paper, a one-piece access cover panel is fabricated from a single piece of plastic and includes alignment tabs, pivot tabs, and snaps for attaching the access cover with the cover.
Abstract: A computer system includes a frame for attaching a plurality of electronic components including a predetermined electronic component. A cover for covering the electronic components is provided along with a mask having an opening. The mask is disposed between the frame and the cover so that a mask opening allows access to the predetermined electronic component while masking other electronic components. The cover includes an access cover panel that is released using a single button and pivoted for removal from the frame. The one-piece access cover panel is fabricated from a single piece of plastic and includes alignment tabs, pivot tabs, and snaps for attaching the access cover panel with the cover. Additionally, a metal shield is attached to the access cover panel for simultaneously shielding the predetermined electronic component when attaching the access cover panel to the cover. The metal shield reduces electromagnetic interference (“EMI”). Advantageously, a method for accessing an electronic component attached to a frame in a computer is provided.

TL;DR: A suitable cover mode with the objective of minimizing energy consumption is developed -- the nodes in wireless ad hoc networks typically have limited battery supply, therefore, it is important to minimize the energy consumption.
Abstract: Traffic analysis poses a serious threat to communication security, especially in wireless networks. Encryption may be used to hide message contents, whereas traffic padding may be used to hide the traffic pattern. This paper deals with the issue of preventing traffic analysis by inserting dummy (or padding) traffic to hide the real traffic pattern. The observable traffic pattern, after dummy traffic has been inserted, is referred to as a cover mode. Since the dummy traffic incurs an overhead, it is important to minimize dummy traffic while achieving the desired security objective. In this paper, we attempt to develop a suitable cover mode with the objective of minimizing energy of preventing traffic analysis by inserting dummy (or padding) traffic to hide the real traffic pattern. The observable traffic pattern, after dummy traffic has been inserted, is referred to as a cover mode. In this paper, we attempt to develop a suitable cover mode with the objective of minimizing energy consumption -- the nodes in wireless ad hoc networks typically have limited battery supply, therefore, it is important to minimize the energy consumption. We propose different methods for implementing the cover mode, and evaluate the impact of these techniques on system lifetime and on energy consumption per unit of real traffic transmitted in the network.

TL;DR: In this article, a portable device which includes a body, a cover and a key is described, where the cover has a closed position for at least partially covering the body, and the key is accessible when the cover is in this position.
Abstract: A portable device which includes a body, a cover and a key. The cover has a closed position for at least partially covering the body, and the key is accessible when the cover is in this position. When the cover is in this an open position, the key has no function, whereas when the cover is in the closed position, the functionality of the key changes depending upon the state of the device. One such function is the muting of an audible indicator provided by a speaker or the like of the device. This may occur, for example, if the key is actuated when the device is a phone and has received an incoming call or if it has an alarm.
