TL;DR: The Denkbild is a poetic mode of writing, a brief snapshot-in-prose that stages the interrelation of literary, philosophical, political, and cultural insights as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: In this book, Gerhard Richter explores the aesthetic and political ramifications of the literary genre of the Denkbild, or thought-image, as it was employed by four major German-Jewish writers and philosophers of the first half of the twentieth century: Theodor W. Adorno, Walter Benjamin, Ernst Bloch, and Siegfried Kracauer. The Denkbild is a poetic mode of writing, a brief snapshot-in-prose that stages the interrelation of literary, philosophical, political, and cultural insights. Richter's careful analysis of the linguistic characteristics of this mode of writing sheds new light on pivotal concerns of modernity, including the fractured cityscape, philosophical problems of modern music, the experience of exiled homelessness, and the disaster of Auschwitz. Thought-Images not only reorients our understanding of the Frankfurt School of Critical Theory in important ways but also establishes significant links between these writers and contemporary French thinkers such as Jacques Derrida.

TL;DR: The authors found that librarians were versed not only in the critical theory of the Frankfurt School, but also in poststructuralism, feminism, queer theory, critical race theory, and postcolonialism.
Abstract: This study was conducted to investigate levels of familiarity that librarians have with critical theory, to determine the extent to which it informs professional practices, and to examine how the social justice issues related to critical theory inform the practices of librarians who are unfamiliar with it. A survey found that librarians were versed not only in the critical theory of the Frankfurt School, but also in poststructuralism, feminism, queer theory, critical race theory, and postcolonialism. Many librarians, lacking familiarity with critical theory, were also shown to be concerned with social justice and these issues significantly affect these librarians’ professional practices. Based on these results, the authors propose the plausibility of incorporating more critical theory into library and information science programs.

TL;DR: In this article, culture practice theory and critical theory are used to explain the difficulty particular groups have with school mathematics as the result of a discontinuity between schooling and other cultural contexts in their lives.
Abstract: In order to achieve equity in school mathematics, mathematics educators must question their assumptions about its nature and worth. Culture practice theory, based on the idea that knowledge is situated within particular contexts, explains the difficulty particular groups have with school mathematics as the result of a discontinuity between schooling and other cultural contexts in their lives. Critical theory, based on the idea that political and economic power are unequally and unjustly distributed in society, describes the school curriculum as a result of a selective tradition that provides the greatest benefits to powerful social groups. Missing from culture‐practice theory is an analysis of the relationship between cultural discontinuity and social inequality; missing from critical theory is an analysis of the privileged position of mathematics in the school curriculum. Taken together, culture practice theory and critical theory provide the foundation of a reform and research agenda for equity...
