TL;DR: Four models that explain the process of culture change are discussed in detail, and they can serve as universal tools for individuals and/or organizations interested in cultural competency.
Abstract: What does it mean to be culturally competent and proficient? What criteria are used to describe a culturally competent healthcare delivery system and how can an individual or an organization grow in competency? What is the delivery of competent care related to me personally? This article addresses these questions with the assumption that knowing ones viewpoints on how culture change offers a sample of the glasses through which we view others. Culture and culture change are defined, and four models that explain the process of culture change are discussed in detail. These models represent different world views held to explain the phenomena of acculturation. The article concludes with a summary of the recommended National Standards for cultural and linguistic appropriate healthcare services developed by the Office of Minority Health. The concepts described can serve as universal tools for individuals and/or organizations interested in cultural competency.

Abstract: Presents findings of research into culture change among middle managers. Middle managers from 46 privatized organizations in the UK formed the survey group, and their attitudes towards the process of privatization and the culture change from public to private sector were recorded and discussed. Results show that managers have a positive attitude towards the changes and a willingness to adapt their role by becoming more proactive in the change process.

TL;DR: The authors examined the differences in the business cultures of Peru and the Netherlands and found that the traditional view of the culture of Peru, as described in the cross-cultural management literature, would appear to have lost some accuracy and relevance over the last 20-30 years.
Abstract: The objective of this study was initially to examine the differences in the business cultures of Peru and the Netherlands; in the process, it was discovered that the traditional view of the culture of Peru, as described in the cross-cultural management literature, would appear to have lost some accuracy and relevance over the last 20–30 years. Peruvian businesspeople, quantitatively compared in matched pairs with Dutch counterparts, show cultural behavioral preferences at odds with the profile recorded by Hofstede. Meanwhile the Dutch sample, although showing some cultural evolution in the last few decades, reveals less dramatic culture change. To identify the cultural differences, a range of businesspeople in Peru and the Netherlands was surveyed. An overall total of 76 matched pairs (two individuals who were alike in terms of age, gender, years of education, and whether they were entrepreneurs, differing only in being Peruvian or Dutch) were questioned. It was concluded that, although based on a much smaller sample, these findings may shed doubt upon traditionally accepted profiles of other South American countries and, indeed, on other countries that may have undergone significant economic, social, and political change over recent decades. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
