TL;DR: This article proposes a novel mechanism for data uploading in smart cyber-physical systems, which considers both energy conservation and privacy preservation, and proposes a heuristic algorithm that achieves an energy-efficient scheme for data upload by introducing an acceptable number of extra contents.
Abstract: To provide fine-grained access to different dimensions of the physical world, the data uploading in smart cyber-physical systems suffers novel challenges on both energy conservation and privacy preservation. It is always critical for participants to consume as little energy as possible for data uploading. However, simply pursuing energy efficiency may lead to extreme disclosure of private information, especially when the uploaded contents from participants are more informative than ever. In this article, we propose a novel mechanism for data uploading in smart cyber-physical systems, which considers both energy conservation and privacy preservation. The mechanism preserves privacy by concealing abnormal behaviors of participants, while still achieves an energy-efficient scheme for data uploading by introducing an acceptable number of extra contents. To derive an optimal uploading scheme is proved to be NP-hard. Accordingly, we propose a heuristic algorithm and analyze its effectiveness. The evaluation results towards a real-world dataset demonstrate that the performance of the proposed algorithm is comparable with the optimal results.

TL;DR: This paper focuses on systematically identifying and classifying likely cyber attacks including cyber-induced cyber-physical attack son SCADA systems and highlights commonalities and important features of such attacks that define unique challenges posed to securingSCADA systems versus traditional Information Technology(IT) systems.
Abstract: Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition(SCADA) systems are deeply ingrained in the fabric of critical infrastructure sectors. These computerized real-time process control systems, over geographically dispersed continuous distribution operations, are increasingly subject to serious damage and disruption by cyber means due to their standardization and connectivity to other networks. However, SCADA systems generally have little protection from the escalating cyber threats. In order to understand the potential danger and to protect SCADA systems, in this paper, we highlight their difference from standard IT systems and present a set of security property goals. Furthermore, we focus on systematically identifying and classifying likely cyber attacks including cyber-induced cyber-physical attack son SCADA systems. Determined by the impact on control performance of SCADA systems, the attack categorization criteria highlights commonalities and important features of such attacks that define unique challenges posed to securing SCADA systems versus traditional Information Technology(IT) systems.

TL;DR: The use of current technologies like Big Data or cloud-computing are drivers for the individual potential of use of Industry 4.0, while business process complexity has a negative influence.
Abstract: Industry 4.0 combines the strengths of traditional industries with cutting edge internet technologies. It embraces a set of technologies enabling smart products integrated into intertwined digital and physical processes. Therefore, many companies face the challenge to assess the diversity of developments and concepts summarized under the term industry 4.0. The paper presents the result of a study on the potential of industry 4.0. The use of current technologies like Big Data or cloud-computing are drivers for the individual potential of use of Industry 4.0. Furthermore mass customization as well as the use of idle data and production time improvement are strong influence factors to the potential of Industry 4.0. On the other hand business process complexity has a negative influence.

TL;DR: This paper presents a digital twin architecture reference model for the cloud-based CPS, C2PS, where the model helps in identifying various degrees of basic and hybrid computation-interaction modes in this paradigm.
Abstract: Cyber-physical system (CPS) is a new trend in the Internet-of-Things related research works, where physical systems act as the sensors to collect real-world information and communicate them to the computation modules (i.e. cyber layer), which further analyze and notify the findings to the corresponding physical systems through a feedback loop. Contemporary researchers recommend integrating cloud technologies in the CPS cyber layer to ensure the scalability of storage, computation, and cross domain communication capabilities. Though there exist a few descriptive models of the cloud-based CPS architecture, it is important to analytically describe the key CPS properties: computation, control, and communication. In this paper, we present a digital twin architecture reference model for the cloud-based CPS, C2PS, where we analytically describe the key properties of the C2PS. The model helps in identifying various degrees of basic and hybrid computation-interaction modes in this paradigm. We have designed C2PS smart interaction controller using a Bayesian belief network, so that the system dynamically considers current contexts. The composition of fuzzy rule base with the Bayes network further enables the system with reconfiguration capability. We also describe analytically, how C2PS subsystem communications can generate even more complex system-of-systems. Later, we present a telematics-based prototype driving assistance application for the vehicular domain of C2PS, VCPS, to demonstrate the efficacy of the architecture reference model.
