TL;DR: This paper proposes a novel architecture of CCPS (termed CCPSA) and outlines the enabling technologies for CIA and dissects three potential challenges and provides solutions from the perspective of CIA, including virtualized resource management techniques, the scheduling of cloud resources, and life cycle management.
Abstract: Recently, with many advances in wireless sensor networks, big data, mobile and cloud computing, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) can tightly couple cyber space with the physical world better than ever before. Also, the cloud-based systems can provide massive storage resources and low-cost computing as well as the flexibility of customizing the operating environment to Complex Industrial Applications (CIA). In our view, Cloud-integrated CPS (CCPS) will open the door to allow previously unachievable application scenarios to be built, deployed, managed and controlled effectively. In this paper, we propose a novel architecture of CCPS (termed CCPSA) and outline the enabling technologies for CIA. Then, we dissect three potential challenges and provide solutions from the perspective of CIA, including virtualized resource management techniques, the scheduling of cloud resources, and life cycle management. We hope this paper can provide insight and a roadmap for future research efforts in the emerging field of CCPS.

Abstract: Cyber-physical systems are networked, component-based, real-time systems that control and monitor the physical world. We need software architectures that limit fault-propagation across unreliable components. This paper introduces our simplex reference model which is distinguished by: a plant being controlled in an external context, a machine performing the control, a domain model that estimates the plant state, and the safety requirements that must be met. The simplex reference model assists with constructing CPS architectures which limit fault-propagation. We present a representative case study to highlight the ideas behind the model and our particular decomposition.

TL;DR: A communication framework based on 5G is presented to support the deployment of CPIoTS with a central controller, which significantly outperforms other benchmark algorithms in terms of meeting the energy efficiency and the QoS requirements.
Abstract: Cyber-physical Internet of things system (CPIoTS), as an evolution of Internet of things (IoT), plays a significant role in industrial area to support the interoperability and interaction of various machines (e.g., sensors, actuators, and controllers) by providing seamless connectivity with low bandwidth requirement. The fifth generation (5G) is a key enabling technology to revolutionize the future of industrial CPIoTS. In this paper, a communication framework based on 5G is presented to support the deployment of CPIoTS with a central controller. Based on this framework, multiple sensors and actuators can establish communication links with the central controller in full-duplex mode. To accommodate the signal data in the available channel band, the resource allocation problem is formulated as a mixed integer nonconvex programming problem, aiming to maximize the sum energy efficiency of CPIoTS. By introducing the transformation, we decompose the resource allocation problem into power allocation and channel allocation. Moreover, we consider an energy-efficient power allocation algorithm based on game theory and Dinkelbach's algorithm. Finally, to reduce the computational complexity, the channel allocation is modeled as a three-dimensional matching problem, and solved by iterative Hungarian method with virtual devices (IHM-VD). A comparison is performed with well-known existing algorithms to demonstrate the performance of the proposed one. The simulation results validate the efficiency of our proposed model, which significantly outperforms other benchmark algorithms in terms of meeting the energy efficiency and the QoS requirements.
