TL;DR: A novel cyber-physical system spanning ground, air, and space, called the Internet of Space Things/CubeSats (IoST) is introduced, envisioned as a means to achieving global connectivity at low costs, which is further bolstered by the use of Software-Defined Networking and Network Function Virtualization.

TL;DR: This study presents a framework of a cyber–physical system to integrate these technologies and improve the overall capabilities of construction organization and management and introduces a case study of the Xiong’an citizen service center.
Abstract: The Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 40) is reshaping the construction industry and bringing it into an intelligent construction era Emerging technologies, such as the Building Information Modelling, Internet of Things, big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, have penetrated into all stages of the building life cycle and play a significant role However, the major issue of intelligent construction is integrating multiple technologies to create more potential opportunities rather than their fragmented application Considering the various special characteristics of the construction industry and the high heterogeneity of these technologies, their integration in the construction industry is challenging and requires in-depth investigations This paper summarizes the Industry 40-related technologies involved in the construction industry based on an analysis of the characteristics of the industry Further, this study presents a framework of a cyber-physical system to integrate these technologies and improve the overall capabilities of construction organization and management A case study of the Xiong'an citizen service center is introduced to verify the technological feasibility and preliminary implementation effect of the proposed framework As forward-looking research, the significance of this paper may also to inspire more efforts in this field

TL;DR: This paper proposes an approach that implements the quickly evolving concept of Cyber-Physical Systems for the special case of production systems by means of software agents.
Abstract: Todays increasing volatility of market demands and customer requirements are forcing industrial enterprises to realize and ensure an increased flexibility of production systems. Since current automation concepts and architectures for production systems do not provide the required flexibility sufficiently, new approaches have to be developed. This paper proposes an approach that implements the quickly evolving concept of Cyber-Physical Systems for the special case of production systems by means of software agents. A joined demonstrator of such Cyber-Physical Production System is described and used for the evaluation of the proposed multi-agent approach.

TL;DR: A cyber physical test-bed for environment virtualization is presented to facilitate the performance evaluation of wireless access and localization in body sensor networks and an analog channel emulator for UWB technologies is designed.
Abstract: Performance evaluation of wireless access and localization is important for body sensor networks, as any defects in the design not only cause wastage of resources, but also threaten an individual's health and safety. The typical cyber methods, however, such as software simulation, often fail to accurately simulate the influence of hardware implementation. The traditional physical methods, however, such as field testing, are not capable of creating repeatable and controllable channel conditions. To combine cyber and physical factors as well as to address the issue, we present a cyber physical test-bed for environment virtualization to facilitate the performance evaluation of wireless access and localization in body sensor networks. This test-bed creates a virtualized environment by emulating the wireless channel in a cybernetic way using a real time channel emulator. The original devices or systems under testing can be physically connected to a channel emulator to evaluate the performance in the virtualization environment. Furthermore, the cyber physical test-bed supports various scenarios from in-body data transmission to time of arrival based indoor localization. To validate the cyber physical approach, emulated outputs are compared with the empirical data obtained from actual measurements. To overcome the bandwidth limitation of traditional digital channel emulators, we have designed an analog channel emulator for UWB technologies. The preliminary verification of this analog emulator is introduced at the end of this paper.

TL;DR: A process-aware approach to detect when a sensor signal is being maliciously manipulated is proposed and a set of lightweight real-time algorithms for spoofing sensor signals directly at the microcontroller of the field device are presented.
Abstract: Cyber-physical systems are characterized by an IT infrastructure controlling effects in the physical world. Attacks are intentional actions trying to cause undesired physical effects. When process data originating in the physical world is manipulated before being handed to the IT infrastructure, the data security property called "veracity" or trustworthiness will be violated. There is no canonical IT security solution guaranteeing that the inputs from a sensor faithfully represent reality. However, the laws of physics may help the defender to detect impossible or implausible sensor readings. This paper proposes a process-aware approach to detect when a sensor signal is being maliciously manipulated. We present a set of lightweight real-time algorithms for spoofing sensor signals directly at the microcontroller of the field device. The detection of spoofed measurements takes the form of plausibility and consistency checks with the help of the correlation entropy in a cluster of related sensors. We use the Tennessee Eastman challenge process to demonstrate the performance of our approach and to highlight aspects relevant to the detection effectiveness.
