TL;DR: A framework for CPS modeling is proposed, which consists of viewpoints, which capture the stakeholders' interests and concerns; concrete languages and tools, among which the stakeholders must make a selection when defining their CPS design environments; and abstract, mathematical formalisms, which are the "semantic glue" linking the two worlds.
Abstract: Cyber-physical systems (CPS) are becoming indispensable in our modern way of life. As an application domain CPS is not new. As an intellectual discipline, however, it is. This paper focuses on CPS modeling, which is an essential activity in CPS design, with multiple challenges. In particular, stakeholders lack a systematic framework and guidelines to help them choose among the many available modeling languages and tools. We propose such a framework in this paper. Our framework consists of three elements: viewpoints, which capture the stakeholders' interests and concerns; concrete languages and tools, among which the stakeholders must make a selection when defining their CPS design environments; and abstract, mathematical formalisms, which are the "semantic glue" linking the two worlds. As part of the framework, we survey various formalisms, languages, and tools and explain how they are related. We also provide examples of viewpoints and discuss how they are related to formalisms.

TL;DR: Following analysis of the present cyber-physical integration for the 4th Industrial Revolution, this paper also investigates future methodologies and trends in smart manufacturing, design and innovation.
Abstract: Foreseeing changes in the way companies manufacture products and provide services, future trends are emerging in design and manufacture. Together with growing internet applications and technologies connected through the cloud, a new Industrial Revolution, named “Industry 4.0”, aims to integrate cyber-virtual and cyber-physical systems to aid smart manufacturing, as presented in this paper. Connecting information and physical machinery, this new paradigm relies on how effective and fast connectivity are achieved for Industry 4.0. A new generation of wireless connection, 5G, will help and accelerate this trend. Following analysis of the present cyber-physical integration for the 4th Industrial Revolution, this paper also investigates future methodologies and trends in smart manufacturing, design and innovation.

TL;DR: An analytical model based on stochastic Petri nets is developed to capture the dynamics between adversary behavior and defense for cyber physical systems and reveals there exists a design tradeoff between exfiltration failure, attrition failure, and pervasion failure when using redundancy to improve the overall system reliability.
Abstract: In this paper, we develop an analytical model based on stochastic Petri nets to capture the dynamics between adversary behavior and defense for cyber physical systems. We consider several types of failures including attrition failure, pervasion failure, and exfiltration failure which can happen to a cyber physical system. Using a modernized electrical grid as an example, we illustrate the parameterization process. Our results reveal optimal design conditions, including the intrusion detection interval, and the redundancy level, under which the modernized electrical grid's mean time to failure is maximized. Further, there exists a design tradeoff between exfiltration failure, attrition failure, and pervasion failure when using redundancy to improve the overall system reliability.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a panoramic survey on big data for cyber-physical systems (CPS), where they provide a broad overview of data collection, storage, access, processing and analysis.
Abstract: The world is witnessing an unprecedented growth of cyber-physical systems (CPS), which are foreseen to revolutionize our world {via} creating new services and applications in a variety of sectors such as environmental monitoring, mobile-health systems, intelligent transportation systems and so on. The {information and communication technology }(ICT) sector is experiencing a significant growth in { data} traffic, driven by the widespread usage of smartphones, tablets and video streaming, along with the significant growth of sensors deployments that are anticipated in the near future. {It} is expected to outstandingly increase the growth rate of raw sensed data. In this paper, we present the CPS taxonomy {via} providing a broad overview of data collection, storage, access, processing and analysis. Compared with other survey papers, this is the first panoramic survey on big data for CPS, where our objective is to provide a panoramic summary of different CPS aspects. Furthermore, CPS {require} cybersecurity to protect {them} against malicious attacks and unauthorized intrusion, which {become} a challenge with the enormous amount of data that is continuously being generated in the network. {Thus, we also} provide an overview of the different security solutions proposed for CPS big data storage, access and analytics. We also discuss big data meeting green challenges in the contexts of CPS.
