TL;DR: In this article, the iterative algorithm of Feldman for heat flow in layered structures is solved in cylindrical coordinates for surface heating and temperature measurement by Gaussian-shaped laser beams.
Abstract: The iterative algorithm of Feldman for heat flow in layered structures is solved in cylindrical coordinates for surface heating and temperature measurement by Gaussian-shaped laser beams. This solution for the frequency-domain temperature response is then used to model the lock-in amplifier signals acquired in time-domain thermoreflectance measurements of thermal properties.

TL;DR: In this article, a geometric conservation law (GCL) is formulated that governs the spatial volume element under an arbitrary mapping and the GCL is solved numerically along with the flow conservation laws using conservative difference operators.
Abstract: Boundary-conforming coordinate transformations are used widely to map a flow region onto a computational space in which a finite-difference solution to the differential flow conservation laws is carried out. This method entails difficulties with maintenance of global conservation and with computation of the local volume element under time-dependent mappings that result from boundary motion. To improve the method, a differential ''geometric conservation law" (GCL) is formulated that governs the spatial volume element under an arbitrary mapping. The GCL is solved numerically along with the flow conservation laws using conservative difference operators. Numerical results are presented for implicit solutions of the unsteady Navier-Stokes equations and for explicit solutions of the steady supersonic flow equations.

Abstract: 1. The steady motion of an incompressible viscous fluid, due to an infinite rotating plane lamina, has been considered by Karman. If r, θ, z are cylindrical polar coordinates, the plane lamina is taken to be z = 0; it is rotating with constant angular velocity ω about the axis r = 0. We consider the motion of the fluid on the side of the plane for which z is positive; the fluid is infinite in extent and z = 0 is the only boundary. If u, v, w are the components of the velocity of the fluid in the directions of r, θ and z increasing, respectively, and p is the pressure, then Karman shows that the equations of motion and continuity are satisfied by taking
