TL;DR: In this article, a method for reducing the light source intensity noise in the superfluorescent erbium-doped fiber source is proposed, i.e., the digital subtraction in a field programmable gate array (FPGA), based on the correlation between the two parts of the coupler.
Abstract: The light source intensity noise in the superfluorescent erbium-doped fiber source is a major factor that affects the angle random walk(ARW) of FOG.To reduce the ARW and improve the precision of FOG,a method for reducing the light source intensity noise is put forward,i.e.the digital subtraction in a field programmable gate array(FPGA),which is based on the correlation between the two parts of the coupler. The output data of FOG was analyzed by Allan variance without the digital subtraction and with the digital subtraction respectively. The results indicate that 33% reduction is demonstrated in the ARW of FOG.This method is simple to implement, high reliable, and easy to maintain.

12 Sep 2009TL;DR: Experimental results show that the proposed two-pass filter is more effective for impulse noise reduction to improve image quality; especially the corruption ratio above 20%.
Abstract: In this paper, a two-pass filter is proposed for removing impulse noise to improve image quality. Due to the fact that the edge is more obvious and detected easily, such characteristics of different edges are used to judge whether the pixel is on an edge. Then, the pixels are not on the edges will be filtered by median filter, and further, the other pixels will be detected to preserve original information and reduce impulse noise. Experimental results show that the proposed method is more effective for impulse noise reduction to improve image quality; especially the corruption ratio above 20%.

29 Oct 1998TL;DR: In this paper, experimental and theoretical studies were conducted, aimed at measuring the noise in a camera, and it was shown that the camera's noise factor is due partly to signal loss and partly to noise addition.
Abstract: In an effort to improve the performances of streak cameras, experimental and theoretical studies were conducted, aimed at measuring the noise in a camera. This would be achieved through the evaluation of the camera's noise factor and by additionally pointing out the possible sources of noise. It was shown for our camera, a TSN 506 Thomson camera, that the noise factor is due partly to signal loss (factor 1,8) and partly to noise addition (factor 2,6). Moreover, noise was shown to be additive and Poissonian, mostly due to shot noise and photoelectric conversions.

22 Aug 2003TL;DR: In this paper, an image pickup system has a noise estimating unit which estimates the amount of noise contained in a digitized signal from a pickup element composed of an array of a plurality of pixels.
Abstract: An image pickup system has a noise estimating unit which estimates the amount of noise contained in a digitized signal from an image pickup element composed of an array of a plurality of pixels, either for each pixel or for each specified unit area made up of a plurality of pixels, and a shooting conditions estimation unit which estimates the shooting condition when an image based on the signal is acquired. The amount of noise estimated by the noise estimating unit is corrected on the basis of the shooting conditions estimated by the shooting conditions estimation unit, and the noise in the signal is reduced on the basis of the corrected amount of noise.
