TL;DR: In this paper, a video camera mounted on the dashboard of a vehicle is used to monitor the occupants of the vehicle during an accident or a security monitoring of the trespassers within the vehicle.
Abstract: In a vehicle, means of mounting a cell phone on the vehicle dashboard with minimal wiring and external connections, using manufacturer power connections made available on the dashboard. The mounting means is either an after market accessory addition to the vehicle or a option available at the time of purchase to render easy and convenient mounting of the cell phone without loose wires and providing proper positioning of a video camera built into the cell phone. The cell phone is positioned for viewing either through the windshield or backward onto the occupants enabling monitoring accidents between vehicles, the result of an accident on the occupants of the vehicle or for security monitoring of the trespassers within the vehicle. This is accomplished by mounting the camera at the dashboard. Another advantage is to improve the power output of the cell phone by positioning the antenna (part of the hand held cell phone device) near the windshield.

TL;DR: An eye detection method is developed that is based on segmenting the head space from the image and then using edge detection and template matching to create eye templates online, and brightness filters to obtain the location of the eyes within theHead space.
Abstract: We present a system that visually monitors the face of a driver and finds the location of the driver's eyes in real time. Our system addresses the actual environment within the interior of a moving car and uses a consumer CCD camera mounted on the dashboard in front of the driver. We develop an eye detection method that is based on segmenting the head space from the image and then using edge detection and template matching to create eye templates online, and brightness filters to obtain the location of the eyes within the head space. We tested our real-time system in thousands of frames using various subjects, head and facial motions, and lighting conditions and report our preliminary results.

TL;DR: In this article, an apparatus and method consisting of a model of a vehicle dashboard, steering wheel, windshield area and illustration of a driving situation or location attached to and extending in front of the vehicle simulator is presented.
Abstract: An apparatus and method consisting of a model of a vehicle dashboard, steering wheel, windshield area and illustration of a driving situation or location attached to and extending in front of the vehicle simulator. The student driver follows highlighted arrows imprinted on the illustration to view the driving area and the dashboard instruments with a specific eye movement pattern. The specific eye movement pattern taught is to look at the center, scan left, look to the center, scan right, look to the center, check the mirror, look to the center, and check the instruments. The windshield of the apparatus contains a center mark comprising a small hole directly in front of the student driver that indicates the very small area of central vision that can be viewed and maneuvered effectively simulating a scanning eye movement pattern. The student driver moves his “central vision” from area to area systematically in order to be aware of all that is happening in the surrounding driving vicinity.
