Abstract: A method of geospatial data based assessment driver behavior to improve driver safety and efficiency is disclosed. A method of a server device may comprise determining that a telemetry data is associated with a vehicle communicatively coupled with the server device and comparing the telemetry data with a driver objective data. A variance between the telemetry data and the driver objective data may then be determined. A performance score may be generated upon comparison of the variance to a threshold limit and/or the driver objective data. The performance score may be published along with other performance scores of other drivers in other vehicles also communicatively coupled with the server device to a reporting dashboard module. Elements of game theory may be implemented to create a team driving challenge and/or a driver performance program to generate the performance score to improve driver safety and efficiency for commercial fleets.

The system includes sensors and other data transmitting equipment communicatively connected to a local server and a computing device via a router. The data transmission equipment and server preferably utilize power-line data transmission as well as wireless data transmission. A dashboard application of the system provides a user interface guiding user responses to energy, state, and operational/service alerts and enabling user-input scheduled control settings. The system may also provide automatic feedback control of restaurant equipment.

Abstract: Nowadays, economical, technical and ergonomic factors have a great importance on the design of the agricultural tractors. The paper illustrates the use and the management of heterogeneous product information (manual measurements and drafts, 2D drawings, technical documentation, photos), advanced CAD modeling tools and digital human models, for the redesign and the ergonomic optimization of an agricultural tractor’s driver cab. The project development has been organized using a top–down approach in a collaborative environment. At first, a manual measurement with gauges allowed to realize a technical draft of the whole agricultural tractor and of each component part of the driver cab. Then a main skeleton has been created in Catia V5 environment in order to specify all the datum elements necessary to model each sub-assembly of the tractor. Cabin, platform, engine, tires, seat, dashboard and controls have been organized separately and modeled considering the details related to the manual measurements and to the technical standards. Once obtained the 3D CAD model of the tractor, an opportune questionnaire was prepared and a test campaign was carried out with real operators in order to define the more critical control devices within the driver cab, as regards to usability and ergonomic issues. An “Ergonomics’ Evaluation Index” (EEI) was defined taking into account the posture angles of the operator and the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment analysis tool available in the “Ergonomics Design & Analysis” module of Catia V5 based on the use of a digital human model. The index was validated comparing the results of tests carried out using virtual manikins of different percentiles performing a specific driving task, with the results of tests carried out by real operators, of the same percentiles, performing the same driving task. Critical values of the EEI obtained during some driving tasks in virtual environment, suggested to modify the shape and the position of some control devices in order to optimize the ergonomics of the driver cab. The adoption of the top-down modeling based approach allowed each change on a singular component part to be automatically propagated on the whole assembly, making easy the changes on the virtual prototype.Copyright © 2012 by ASME

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell-mounted vehicle capable of reliably protecting a fuel cell and a fuel cell generated voltage control unit at the time of inputting a buffer load.SOLUTION: A fuel cell-mounted vehicle 1 has a driving motor 21, a fuel cell 22, and a VCU 23 placed in that order from below in a motor room 3 marked out from a cabin 4 of a vehicle via a dashboard 5. Herein, the fuel cell 22 and dashboard 5 are disposed with a first distance A between them as a gap ensuring distance, which is needed in the case of a vehicle collision, in a fore-and-aft direction of the vehicle. The VCU 23 and dashboard 5 are disposed with a second distance B, which is a distance equal to or larger than the first distance A, between them. The fuel cell 22 is displaced within the first distance A when a predetermined buffer load is externally worked.

Abstract: A burglar proof system for a vehicle is provided. The burglar proof system includes an observation module, a portable dashboard, a dashboard docking station, and an engine control module. When the portable dashboard is connected to the dashboard docking station, the authenticity of a portable dashboard is determined. The engine control module can only operate when the portable dashboard identification is validated. The dashboard docking station transmits a validation failure warning message to a server if a portable dashboard is not authenticated. When the portable dashboard is not coupled with the dashboard docking station, the engine control module is disabled, and the observation module transmits locational information to the server in response to any movement of the vehicle determined according to onboard sensors. The disclosure further provides a burglar proof method for a vehicle.

Abstract: The proportion of plastic components in automobiles has increased over past few decades. With the pressure of legislation on treatment of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) and economical and environmental concerns, the management of plastic scrap in ELVs is becoming an important issue. This paper reviewed utilization of plastics in automobile production and traditional management of components from ELVs, with introduction of new legislation problems have been identified in the recycling of plastic from ELVs. Some examples of closed-loop recycling of plastic automobile parts are presented, and the potentials of using recycled plastics in automobile production are also discussed.

Abstract: An apparatus and method allows a driver to read a map, directions or text while driving a car without taking their eyes away from the road. An electronic display device may be mounted to, or made integrally with, a dashboard of an automobile. The electronic display device may be programmed to display inverted (mirror image) information thereupon. When the electronic display is disposed on the automobile's dashboard, the windshield may reflect the inverted image as a normal scene for the driver to visualize. Since the image is displayed on the windshield, the driver can see the image without having to take their eyes off the road.

A monitoring unit(170) monitors the remaining voltage amount of each battery cell. A control unit(180) calculates a travel distance according to the charging amount of the charging unit and the remaining voltage amount of the battery cells.

Abstract: The invention discloses a method and a device for obtaining Squeak and Rattle noise source, and belongs to the field of automobile noise analysis. The method comprises the following steps that: a body-in-white finite element model and a dashboard assembly finite element model are set up; the unit dynamic excitation force is acted on vehicle body suspension points on the body-in-white finite element model to obtain the acceleration response of installation points on the dashboard assembly finite element model; and the source of the Squeak and Rattle noise on the dashboard assembly finite element model is determined according to the acceleration response of the installation points on the dashboard assembly finite element model. The device comprises a modeling module, an acceleration response obtaining module and a Squeak and Rattle noise source obtaining module. The temperature sensor measures the temperature of around a cluster. The display unit outputs alerting messages on a screen. The data storage unit saves the information relative to the maintaining time for message output according to the temperature. The control unit extracts the output maintaining term matched to the measured temperature of the temperature sensor and applies to the display unit.

A central processing unit, an indicator lamp driving circuit and a CAN (controller area network) bus are arranged in the dashboard, wherein the indicator lamp driving circuit and the CAN bus are respectively connected with the central processing unit. The CAN bus is connected with a vehicular electronic device, a plurality of alarm indicator lamps, a liquid crystal display screen, a buzzer and a plurality of meters are arranged on the surface of the dashboard, the alarm indicator lamps are connected with the indicator lamp driving circuit, and the liquid crystal display screen, the buzzer and the meters are respectively connected with the central processing unit, and the alarm indicator lamps are positioned in the middle of the dashboard. The CAN bus and the vehicular electronic equipment are used for communication, harnesses are reduced, and accordingly weight of an automobile body is reduced, wire distribution is facilitated, and signal stability is improved. Further, by reasonably arranging positions of the meters, the alarm indicator lamps and the liquid crystal display screen, the automobile combination meter is more compact in structure and convenient for a driver to observe and be aware of relevant conditions.

Abstract: In an attempt to further develop and evaluate the optical recognition systems for distinguishing between driver and frontseat passenger during their interactions with dual-view touch screen integrated to the automobile centre console, this work focuses on the enhancement of both image processing algorithms and experimental environment. In addition to the motion based forearm and hand segmentation and the texture based arm direction analysis, the adaptive boosting classifiers with Haar-like features have been engaged for the learning of driver's and passenger's hand patterns. The user discrimination system was completely reproduced in a laboratory, including passenger compartment with genuine dashboard, touch screen, camera and near-infrared lamps, so that different illumination conditions could be modeled. The new acquisition system allows automatic and unambiguous registration of all touch screen interactions and their synchronization with the video stream. This results in credible evaluation of the image processing routines. The adjustment of the camera position and the active infrared illumination made it possible to reduce the recognition error rates and to achieve superior discrimination performance compared to previous works.

Abstract: The utility model discloses a seamless dashboard assembly. An air bag assembly is mounted in a dashboard, a cover is omitted on the air bag assembly but is integrated with the dashboard, accordingly, a parting line on the appearance of the dashboard is omitted, tearing lines are disposed at corresponding positions of the inner surface of the dashboard and the edge of the air bag assembly so as to bring convenience for opening an air bag, and the tearing lines are cut by laser. Thicknesses of the positions with the tearing lines of the dashboard are smaller than those of other unsealed positions of the dashboard. The tearing lines can be H-shaped or U-shaped. The thicknesses of remaining parts of the cut positions can be effectively controlled by means of laser cutting, and the air bag can be safely opened conveniently. The air bag inside the seamless dashboard assembly is an integral spherical seamless air bag, and the possibility of breaking the seamless air bag is greatly lower than the possibility of breaking a seamed air bag.
