TL;DR: A cover plate for a dashboard switch panel has a moulded rear with tags (17) onto which the press fit cable connectors are fitted as mentioned in this paper, allowing subsequent fitting of the accessory without having to rewire the loom or remove the dashboard.
Abstract: A cover plate for a dashboard switch panel has a moulded rear with tags (17) onto which the press fit cable connectors are fitted. This allows subsequent fitting of the accessory without having to rewire the loom or remove the dashboard. The vehicle can be mass produced with the accessory wiring included in the normal loom. To fit any item the user merely removes the cover and replaces it with the switch. The other ends of the cables are clipped near the fitting points of the accessories.

21 Oct 2002TL;DR: In a vehicle instrument panel and dashboard assembly the viewable displays and switches on the instrument panel 25 are separate from the controlling electronics 16, 18 which are mounted on dashboard reinforcing member 12 as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: In a vehicle instrument panel and dashboard assembly the viewable displays and switches on the instrument panel 25 are separate from the controlling electronics 16, 18 which are mounted on dashboard reinforcing member 12. The viewable displays etc can be powered in a non-contact manner by induction and information can pass between the units on the reinforcing member 12 and the display by optical communication (e.g. infra red).

TL;DR: In this paper, a unit fitted on road vehicle's dashboard is used to indicate to the driver the Speed Limit 2 of the area of road, and the speed 4 of the vehicle, with flashing of the speed limit display, and or a sound signal, should the vehicle speed exceed the limit.
Abstract: A unit fitted on road vehicle's dashboard, to indicate to the driver the Speed Limit 2 of the area of road, and the speed 4 of the vehicle, with flashing of the speed limit display, and or a sound signal, should the vehicle speed exceed the speed limit. The speed limit would be transmitted to the vehicle's unit, by a transmitter 7 mounted on the first and last speed limit signs, of that area.
