Dashboard Reachability and Usability Tests: A Cheap and Effective Method for Drivers' Comfort Rating

Abstract: General comfort may be defined as the “level of well-being” perceived by humans in a working environment. The state-ofthe-art about evaluation of comfort/discomfort shows the need for an objective method to evaluate the “effect in the internal body” and “perceived effects” in main systems of comfort perception. In the early phases of automotive design, the seating and dashboard command can be virtually prototyped, and, using Digital Human Modeling (DHM) software, several kinds of interactions can me modeled to evaluate the ergonomics and comfort of designed solutions. Several studies demonstrated that DHM approaches are favorable in virtual reachability and usability tests as well as in macro-ergonomics evaluations, but they appear insufficient in terms of evaluating comfort. Comfort level is extremely difficult to detect and measure; in fact, it is affected by individual perceptions and always depends on the biomechanical, physiological, and psychological state of the tester during task execution. These parameters cannot be modeled using software and instead have to be tested on physical models.

Reconfigurable dashboard assembly for military vehicles

Abstract: A modular dashboard assembly for a vehicle, such as a tactical vehicle, is described. In some cases, the dashboard assembly includes a smart back plane and removably attachable front modules. The back plane may facilitate communications between components within the front modules and systems with the vehicle, or between components.

Electronic Assistance System and Method

Abstract: An electronic assistance system and method for an electrical vehicle is provided that integrates the following functions: display of relevant information on the vehicle on a dashboard using visual or audio cues, as well as dials and/or graphical or alphanumeric displays; communication with people outside the vehicle through a loudspeaker; management of vehicle start-up; management of air conditioning, heating and defrosting; storage in memory of information on problematic states having occurred during operation of the vehicle; storage in memory of daily operating parameters of the vehicle; real time acquisition, ease of reconfiguration; and transmittal of stored operating data in order to generate vehicle operating behavior reports.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing navigation information are discussed. To increase safety and convenience of use for vehicle navigation devices, a navigation system includes a plurality of displays for displaying related and distinct sets of navigation information in response to an intuitive user input such as a gesture. One such system can include a plurality of display devices, a location determining component for determining a location of a vehicle and other navigation information, and an input component for receiving user input.
