TL;DR: This chapter provides an overview of the history of data warehousing with a focus on the first-generation data warehouse, which evolved to include disciplined data ETL from legacy applications in a granular, historical, integrated data warehouse.
Abstract: This chapter provides an overview of the history of data warehousing. Data warehousing has come a long way since the frustrating days when user data was limited to operational application data that was accessible only through an IT department intermediary. Data warehousing has evolved to meet the needs of end users who require integrated, historical, granular, flexible, and accurate information. The first-generation data warehouse evolved to include disciplined data ETL (extract/transform/load) from legacy applications in a granular, historical, integrated data warehouse. With the growing popularity of data warehousing came numerous changes—volumes of data, a spiral development approach, heuristic processing, and more. As the evolution of data warehousing continued, some mutant forms emerged like active data warehousing, federated data warehousing, star schema data warehouses, and data mart data warehouses. While each of these mutant forms of data warehousing has some advantages, they also have introduced a host of new and significant disadvantages. Therefore, the time for the next generation of data warehousing has come.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a data mart assembly method based on a plurality of slices of structured data, where the first user is provided with an option to utilize the data mart for a second project where the second project is different than the first project.
Abstract: Included are embodiments for data mart assembly. Some embodiments of the method include receiving a plurality of slices of structured data, providing an option to graphically assemble a data mart from at least a portion of the plurality of slices of structured data for a first project, and providing an option to access a previously created data mart from a data mart repository for inclusion in the first project. Some embodiments include associating the data mart with a first user, such that the first user is provided with an option to utilize the data mart for a second project, where the first project is different than the second project.

TL;DR: This paper describes how the P&S Division in VDOT will benefit by investing in IT to achieve its strategic goals and presents a case study based on the enterprise data warehouse and P &S Data Mart being developed and implemented for VDot.
Abstract: To assist VDOT in achieving its strategic outcome area objectives, a Programming and Scheduling (P&S) Data Mart is also being developed to track pre-construction project activities. This data mart and subsequent data marts function as departmental decision support platforms enabling VDOTs operating divisions to perform their own enhanced analytical processing, visualization, and data mining for more informed business decisions capabilities. This paper presents a case study based on the enterprise data warehouse and P&S Data Mart being developed and implemented for VDOT and it describes how the P&S Division in VDOT will benefit by investing in IT to achieve its strategic goals

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors proposed a method and a system for identifying abnormal transactions based on a fund transaction network, the abnormal transaction identification method comprises the following steps: the step of constructing a data mart through multi-subject data.
Abstract: The invention discloses a method and a system for identifying abnormal transactions based on a fund transaction network, The abnormal transaction identification method comprises the following steps: the step of constructing a data mart through multi-subject data, the step of determining the basic index data, the step of generating the first risk characteristic data, the step of forming a pluralityof fund transaction networks based on the transaction data, the step of generating suspicious cases of abnormal transactions and the step of generating suspicious screening reports; The abnormal transaction identification system includes: data mart building module, basic index mining module, risk characteristics generation module, transaction network building module, suspicious case generation module and screening report generation module. Based on the established fund transaction network and transaction risk model, the invention can completely restore the money laundering process and the money laundering scene, and provides strong support and assistance for the money laundering behavior investigation. The invention also has the prominent advantages of high precision, good comprehensiveness, strong objectivity and the like.
