TL;DR: In this paper, the torque-angle curves of a synchronous reluctance machine which is designed and prototyped for traction applications are estimated using an analytical model, which can also be used as a tool to obtain initial design parameters.
Abstract: The unique features of the synchronous reluctance machines such as fast dynamic response, simple rotor structure, and low cost have gained attention in recent years for many applications such as electric vehicles. In this paper the torque-angle curves of a synchronous reluctance machine which is designed and prototyped for traction applications are estimated using an analytical model. These curves which are obtained for various currents at different load angles, provide the required information that can lead to an optimized operation of the machine and a better performance of the electric vehicle. The analytical model proposed in this paper is based on the electromagnetic equations and calculates the electromagnetic torque using the coenergy method. This model provides preliminary information about the machine's characteristic, and can also be used as a tool to obtain initial design parameters. The results of the analytical model are then compared to finite element and experimental results. The comparison shows an acceptable agreement, which allows the model to be used as a design tool.

TL;DR: SensDep is introduced as a software design tool that incorporates several solution strategies to optimize sensor networks cost and coverage and provides near optimal schemes for large scale designs using a set of heuristic solutions.
Abstract: In this paper, we introduce SensDep as a software design tool that incorporates several solution strategies to optimize sensor networks cost and coverage. The tool helps the designer answer many "what-if" questions that usually arise in the design of surveillance operations networks. Also, it considers several operation capabilities for the sensing devices including reliability, mobility, transfer cost, sensors' cost, lifespan and power self scheduling in addition to the environment parameters during the deployment process. Moreover, it provides the designer the optimal deployment scheme for small size designs using mathematical programming. It also provides near optimal schemes for large scale designs using a set of heuristic solutions. A set of experiments is conducted to test the tool capabilities for different design settings. Several design scenarios are presented to illustrate how the tool can be utilized.

TL;DR: A software system for development, control, programming, simulation, and emulation of fixed, softwareconfigurable, software-reconfigurable and software-controlled Lab-on-a-chip (LoC) devices is described in this paper.
Abstract: A software system for development, control, programming, simulation, and emulation of fixed, software-configurable, software-reconfigurable, and software-controlled Lab-on-a-chip (“LoC”) devices. Files may be used to specify LoC configurations for models, emulation, and fabrication, and scripts can be implemented to control numerical simulations as well as physical emulations of modeled LoC devices. Other features include a control software design tool, fabrication design systems, and an authoring/editing tool for specification files. In some cases, an active data visualization system provides visualizations of real-time data generated by past and current simulations and emulations.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present interactive simulation tools to support the enhancement of power electronics education considering DC to DC converters, which make use of the benefits of Java language to provide a dynamic and interactive visualization of simulations in steady-state for idealized non-isolated DC-to-DC converters.
Abstract: This paper presents interactive simulation tools to support the enhancement of power electronics education considering DC to DC converters. These interactive tools make use of the benefits of Java language to provide a dynamic and interactive visualization of simulations in steady-state for idealized non-isolated DC to DC converters. Additionally, this paper discusses the features and the usage of the interactive educational tools to serve as a first design tool for the laboratory experiments in the power electronics courses. In this way, some results were confronted with a well-known simulator package and with experimental results in order to validate the developed interactive simulation tools.

TL;DR: Knowledge-base is used to realize the design performance for the geometry with an integrated database approach for a multidisciplinary aircraft conceptual design and the methodology applied in realizing the design.
Abstract: With the ever growing complexity of aircrafts, new tools and eventually methods to use these tools are needed in aircraft conceptual design. To reduce the development cost, an enhancement in the conceptual design is needed. This thesis presents a knowledge-based aircraft geometry design tool RAPID and the methodology applied in realizing the design. The parameters used to create a geometry need to be exchange between different tools. This is achieved by using a centralized database or onedata concept. One-database will enable creating a less number of cross connections between different tools to exchange data with one another. Different types of aircraft configurations can be obtained with less effort. As RAPID is developed based on relational design, any changes made to the geometric model will update automatically. The geometry model is carefully defined to carry over to the preliminary design. The validation of RAPID is done by implementing it in different aircraft design courses at Linkoping University. In the aircraft project course, RAPID was effectively used and new features were added to the obtained desired design. Knowledge-base is used to realize the design performance for the geometry with an integrated database approach for a multidisciplinary aircraft conceptual design.
