TL;DR: A new attack on block ciphers is introduced, which is termed integral cryptanalysis, which relies on similar principles to differential crypt analysis, but is based on different statistics.
Abstract: A new attack on block ciphers is introduced, which is termed integral cryptanalysis. It relies on similar principles to differential cryptanalysis, but is based on different statistics. It is shown that this method is more effective than differential cryptanalysis in attacking SAFER+.

13 Feb 2011TL;DR: This paper is the first to propose an efficient algorithm to calculate adpARX, the probability with which additive differences propagate through the following sequence of operations: modular addition, bit rotation and XOR (ARX).
Abstract: We analyze adpARX, the probability with which additive differences propagate through the following sequence of operations: modular addition, bit rotation and XOR (ARX). We propose an algorithm to evaluate adpARX with a linear time complexity in the word size. This algorithm is based on the recently proposed concept of S-functions. Because of the bit rotation operation, it was necessary to extend the S-functions framework. We show that adpARX can differ significantly from the multiplication of the differential probability of each component. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first to propose an efficient algorithm to calculate adpARX. Accurate calculations of differential probabilities are necessary to evaluate the resistance of cryptographic primitives against differential cryptanalysis. Our method can be applied to find more accurate differential characteristics for ARX-based constructions.

TL;DR: This work proposes a different approach to use Grobner basis techniques to compute structural features of block ciphers, which may then be used to improve "classical" differential and integral attacks.
Abstract: Algebraic cryptanalysis is a general tool which permits one to assess the security of a wide range of cryptographic schemes. Algebraic techniques have been successfully applied against a number of multivariate schemes and stream ciphers. Yet, their feasibility against block ciphers remains the source of much speculation. In this context, algebraic techniques have mainly been deployed in order to solve a system of equations arising from the cipher, so far with limited success. In this work we propose a different approach: to use Grobner basis techniques to compute structural features of block ciphers, which may then be used to improve "classical" differential and integral attacks. We illustrate our techniques against the block ciphers Present and Ktantan32.

TL;DR: The proposed heuristic tool use such methods inspired by Nested Tree-based sampling to find differential paths in ARX cipher and successfully applied to get a state of art results for differential cryptanalysis with a very fast and simpler framework.
Abstract: This paper presents the differential cryptanalysis of ARX based cipher Chaskey using tree search based heuristic approach. ARX algorithms are suitable for resource-constrained devices such as IoT and very resistant to standard cryptanalysis such as linear or differential. To make a differential attack, it is important to make differential characteristics of the cipher. Finding differential characteristics in ARX is the most challenging task nowadays. Due to the bigger block size, it is infeasible to calculate lookup tables for non-linear components. Transition through the non-linear layer of cipher faces a huge state space problem. The problem of huge state space is a serious research topic in artificial intelligence (AI). The proposed heuristic tool use such methods inspired by Nested Tree-based sampling to find differential paths in ARX cipher and successfully applied to get a state of art results for differential cryptanalysis with a very fast and simpler framework. The algorithm can also be applied in different research areas in cryptanalysis where such huge state space is a problem.
