Abstract: Resource pooling strategies have been widely used in industry to match supply with demand. However, effective implementation of these strategies can be challenging. Firms need to integrate the heterogeneous service level requirements of different customers into the pooling model and allocate the resources appropriately in the most effective manner. The traditional analysis of inventory pooling, for instance, considers the performance metric in a centralized system and does not address the associated issue of inventory allocation. Using Blackwell's Approachability Theorem, we derive a set of necessary and sufficient conditions to relate the fill rate requirements to the resources (inventory or capacity) needed in the system. This provides a new approach to studying the value of resource pooling in a system with differentiated service requirements. Furthermore, we show that with "allocation flexibility'' the amount of safety stock needed in a system with identical and independent customers does not grow with the number of customers but instead diminishes to zero as the number of customers grows sufficiently large. This surprising result holds for all demand distribution with bounded first and second moments.

TL;DR: A Web service composition system that provides an environment for specifying the flow model of the composite service and the user's constraints on the Composite service and extends it with service discovery functionalities.
Abstract: In this work, we present a web service composition system that provides an environment for specifying the flow model of the composite service and the user's constraints on the composite service. We adopt our previous work on workflow modeling and scheduling under resource allocation constraints for web service composition and extend it with service discovery functionalities. In modeling the composite service, the system guides the user for selecting the relevant service types. In both guiding functionality and the service discovery phase, ontology-based semantic information of the services is utilized.

TL;DR: Results indicate that subscribers do not consider the MNP service an import attribute, while price and service quality are the most valuable attributes.
Abstract: The mobile telecommunication sector is increasing, thus becoming a key area for economic development in global and local markets. One of potential ways to promote competition among service providers is to introduce a mobile number portability (MNP) service. Consumer preferences are estimated using conjoint analysis. Results indicate that subscribers do not consider the MNP service an import attribute, while price and service quality are the most valuable attributes. The results of this study provide important information to implement the first service launch in mobile telecommunication and other similar information and communication technology (ICT) services.

TL;DR: In this article, a method and system for controlling the provisioning of a device with information for accessing services of a wireless service provider via a wireless network is provided, which initially stores automatic provisioning information on the device that includes the identification of wireless service providers that have the capability to automatically provision the device.
Abstract: A method and system for controlling the provisioning of a device with information for accessing services of a wireless service provider via a wireless network is provided. The provisioning system initially stores automatic provisioning information on the device that includes the identification of wireless service providers that have the capability to automatically provision the device. When a user of the device wants to subscribe to a service of a service provider, the provisioning system requests an automatic provisioning service of the service provider to provide information describing available services and information needed to subscribe to those services. When the user selects a service and provides the needed information, the provisioning system retrieves provisioning information for the selected service from the service provider. The provisioning system stores the provisioning information on the device so that the device can then be used to access the selected service of the service provider.
