TL;DR: A data processing system may be implemented as a program product embodied on a processing system readable medium for implementing a method for using mobile code for implementing service in a global ecosystem of interrelated services in an enterprise as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A data processing system may be implemented as a program product embodied on a processing system readable medium for implementing a method for using mobile code for implementing a service in a global ecosystem of interrelated services in an enterprise. The enterprise may include a group of network domains, where each of the network domains further includes a group of servers; at least one service container running on each of the servers; and a group of interrelated services, where each of the interrelated services may run on any of the at least one service container. The program product may include instructions for loading mobile service code for implementing a service on a code server, where the code server is accessible to at least some of the servers in the enterprise; instructions for determining information related to the service, where the information related to the service includes configuration information and a proxy reference for the service, the proxy reference including a codebase containing an address for a code server holding the mobile service code of a proxy for the service; and instructions for launching the service in a network domain.

TL;DR: In this article, a broker of the invention proposes a centralized distribution scheme for the consumer electronics market, which comprises an electronic presentation of a plurality of information services, among which an individual can choose.
Abstract: A broker of the invention proposes a centralized distribution scheme for the consumer electronics market. This distribution scheme comprises an electronic presentation of a plurality of information services, among which an individual can choose. Each information service is offered by one or more service providers. Upon selection by the individual of a specific service, the broker enables one of the providers associated with the specific service to provide the service to the individual. The broker may have a database of records of service providers. Besides, the broker may also build a profile of the user so that the provider can be selected based on a match of the record of the provider with the profile.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system and method for steering traffic through a set of services is provided, where a service path or service chain is assigned to a received packet based on a classification of the packet and correlation of a packet with a traffic flow.
Abstract: A system and method for steering traffic through a set of services is provided. A service path or service chain is assigned to a received packet based on a classification of the packet and correlation of the packet with a traffic flow. A new service chain identifier can be created if no such correlation exists. A next service type and a particular instance of the next service type can be determined in accordance with the service chain identifier. A next destination for the traffic can be set in accordance with the instance of the next service.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a system and method for interaction and access to shared content among clients and services in a distributed computing environment, where a client may access a space service.
Abstract: A system and method for interaction and access to shared content among clients and services in a distributed computing environment. A client may access a space service. The space service may store one or more XML service advertisements and/or other XML content in a space, and each of the service advertisements may include information which is usable to access and execute a corresponding service. The space service may include an XML schema which specifies one or more messages usable to invoke functions of the space service. For example, the schema may specify methods for reading advertisements from the space and publishing advertisements in the space. In accessing the space service, the client may send information such as an XML message (as specified in the schema) to the space service at an Internet address. In accessing the space service, the client may search the one or more service advertisements stored in the space. The client may select one of the service advertisements from the space. The desired service may be executed on behalf of the client. Upon execution, the service may generate a set of results. In one embodiment, these results may be published in a new space which may be accessed by the client for whose benefit the service was executed.

TL;DR: In this article, an examination of patterns of use and economics of data networks suggests that providing enough bandwidth for uniformly high quality transmission may be practical, if this turns out not to be possible, only the simplest schemes that require minimal involvement by end users and network administrators are likely to be accepted.
Abstract: Can high quality be provided economically for all transmissions on the Internet? Current work assumes that it cannot, and concentrates on providing differentiated service levels. However, an examination of patterns of use and economics of data networks suggests that providing enough bandwidth for uniformly high quality transmission may be practical. If this turns out not to be possible, only the simplest schemes that require minimal involvement by end users and network administrators are likely to be accepted. On the other hand, there are substantial inefficiencies in the current data networks, inefficiencies that can be alleviated even without complicated pricing or network engineering systems.
