TL;DR: New functionality to the protocol is integrated that enable the parties of a WS-Agreement to re-negotiate and modify its terms during the service provision, and it is shown how a typical scenario of service composition can benefit from this proposal.

TL;DR: This paper proposes to cluster data providing (DP) services using a refined fuzzy C-means algorithm, and considers the composite relation between DP service elements when representing DP services in terms of vectors.
Abstract: In service-oriented computing, a user usually needs to locate a desired service for: (i) fulfilling her requirements or (ii) replacing a service, which disappears or is unavailable for some reasons, to perform an interaction. With the increasing number of services available within an enterprise and over the Internet, locating a service online may not be appropriate from the performance perspective, especially in large Internet-based service repositories. Instead, services usually need to be clustered according to their similarity. Thereafter, services in one or several clusters are necessary to be examined online during dynamic service discovery. In this paper, we propose to cluster data providing (DP) services using a refined fuzzy C-means algorithm. We consider the composite relation between DP service elements (i.e., input, output, and semantic relation between them) when representing DP services in terms of vectors. A DP service vector is assigned to one or multiple clusters with certain degrees. In addition, we introduce some operations for managing service clusters, when new services emerge or existing services disappear or become unavailable. When grouping similar services into one cluster, while partitioning different services into different clusters, the capability of service search engine is improved significantly. We have prototyped our approach and the source code is freely available on the web. We have evaluated our clustering approach in different settings and the results are very promising.

TL;DR: In a computational experiment and a case study with data from a company in the semiconductor supplier industry, it is shown that significant cost reductions can be obtained when critical level policies are used instead of base stock policies (ie policies without critical levels).
Abstract: The contemporary after-sales market is of increasing importance. One of the features required by the market is to provide differentiated service levels to different groups of customers. We use critical levels as a means to offer differentiation. Critical level policies aim to exploit the differences in target service levels by inventory rationing. In our multi-item single-location spare parts inventory model, we aim to minimize the spare parts provisioning cost, that is inventory holding and transportation cost, under the condition that aggregate mean waiting time constraints for all customer groups are met. In a computational experiment and a case study with data from a company in the semiconductor supplier industry, we show that significant cost reductions can be obtained when critical level policies are used instead of base stock policies (ie policies without critical levels).

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a system and method for integrating a business process management (BPM) system with an enterprise service bus, which is used to model business processes which contain a set of activities linked by transitions.
Abstract: A system and method are described for integrating a business process management (BPM) system with an enterprise service bus. The BPM system is used to model business processes which contain a set of activities linked by transitions. The BPM system is used to define, publish, deploy and execute the processes in a distributed computing environment. The service bus is used to manage web services and perform routing and transformation of messages between the web services. A transport is used to describe each process defined by the BPM system as a web service on the service bus and provide the ability to connect the BPM component to the enterprise service bus. This allows each of the processes to be exposed as a web service by injecting data retrieved from the process definition into the enterprise service bus. Furthermore, the processes defined in BPM can consume web services from the service bus.

TL;DR: This paper comprehensively investigates functional attributes of web services and their manipulation, and particularly highlights an information compatibility and mapping analysis.
Abstract: Despite its prevalence, the service-oriented architecture (SOA) still has an imperative challenge to achieve interoperability within and across enterprise applications Minimal conditions for interoperability are: (1) to discover and plug in proper services for integration and (2) to support for seamless data exchanges between component services A similarity-based approximate matching is a practical approach for both, in that the service discovery relies on functional matches between a query and service descriptions, and the seamless data exchange is granted by mapping information from a service to others To these ends, this paper comprehensively investigates functional attributes of web services and their manipulation, and particularly highlights an information compatibility and mapping analysis The functional quality of service (FQoS) allows service discovery and selection to step forward Simulation results show that the present FQoS metrics are effective in service discovery
