TL;DR: The generation of spatial bright solitons similar to those observed in arrays of coupled optical waveguides are demonstrated and pairs of out-of-phasesolitons, which resemble twisted localized states in nonlinear lattices are created.
Abstract: We study experimentally nonlinear localization effects in optically induced gratings created by interfering plane waves in a photorefractive crystal. We demonstrate the generation of spatial bright solitons similar to those observed in arrays of coupled optical waveguides. We also create pairs of out-of-phase solitons, which resemble twisted localized states in nonlinear lattices.

TL;DR: In this paper, a compact head-up display comprising a combiner which combines light energy from an outside view with light energy transmitted within the combiner and diffracted out by means of an upper diffraction grating is described.
Abstract: A compact head-up display comprising a combiner which combines light energy from an outside view with light energy transmitted within the combiner and diffracted out by means of an upper diffraction grating. The head-up display disclosed further comprises an image source, a collimating lens, and a lower diffraction grating for diffracting the collimated light energy into the combiner.

TL;DR: In this article, a single-layer subwavelength grating (SWG) was proposed for monolithic integration of devices over a wide range of wavelengths, with high reflectivity.
Abstract: We report the first experimental demonstration of a novel single-layer subwavelength grating (SWG) that has >500-nm-wide reflection spectrum from 1.12-1.62 /spl mu/m and very high reflectivity (>98.5%). This SWG is scalable for different wavelengths by simply changing the grating dimensions, which, thus, facilitates monolithic integration of devices over a wide range of wavelengths.

TL;DR: The holographic storage of diffraction patterns in a three-dimensional media is described from a vector viewpoint derived from the Kirchhoff diffraction integral, and experimental results are given.
Abstract: The holographic storage of diffraction patterns in a three-dimensional media is described from a vector viewpoint derived from the Kirchhoff diffraction integral. The sensitivity of the reconstruction to wavelength and to the orientation of the readout beam is calculated, and experimental results are given.

TL;DR: In this paper, for the first time to our knowledge, the excellent optical performance of long-period gratings written in three standard fibers and in two nonstandard fibers using the flexible and low-cost electric arc technique was reported.
Abstract: We report, for the first time to our knowledge, the excellent optical performance of long-period gratings written in three standard fibers and in two nonstandard fibers, namely, S-doped and N-doped fibers, using the flexible and low-cost electric arc technique The fundamental mechanism for their formation is proposed The grating thermal behavior and the effect of fiber preannealing prior to writing have been investigated We have demonstrated a good stability of these gratings at high temperatures
