TL;DR: In this paper, an underwater sensor is used to detect conductivity, pH, and presence of various chemicals in a barge with gaseous oxygen added to it to supplement the natural processes of purification.
Abstract: 1292933 Oxygenating liquids MARTIN MARIETTA CORP 23 Feb 1970 [24 Feb 1969] 8644/70 Heading B1C A natural body of polluted water has gaseous oxygen added to it to supplement the natural processes of purification. The oxygen is preferably stored in liquid form on a barge, and is vapourized by passing it through an air heat exchanger, before passing through a control valve to a diffuser under the water, from which it escapes into the water. The flow rate is controlled in response to signals from an underwater sensor which may detent conductivity, pH, and the presence of various chemicals. A further detector near the surface senses the oxygen content of the oxygenated water, and operates an override control to prevent free oxygen escaping to the atmosphere. The underwater sensor may also control the operation of an ozone generator or the injection of catalysts or oxidation agents.

TL;DR: In this paper, an air diffuser is mounted adjacent the lowermost portion of the baffle which is spaced from the bottom of the tank and a conduit connecting the air diffusers to an air compressor.
Abstract: Apparatus for use in converting septic bacterial-action sewage systems to aerobic sewage treatment systems. The apparatus consisting of a baffle to be positioned within a septic tank structure, having inlet and outlet ports, in an inclined position dividing the tank into an aeration chamber adjacent the inlet port and a settling chamber adjacent the outlet port. At least one air diffuser mounted adjacent the lowermost portion of the baffle which is spaced from the bottom of the tank and a conduit connecting the air diffuser to an air compressor. With this arrangement and with air issuing from the air diffuser countercurrent flows are imparted to the sewage in the aeration and settling chambers whereby continuous and complete aeration and mixing of the sewage in the tank is accomplished. In further aspect the baffle is provided with structure for returning scum from the surface of the liquid in the settling chamber to the aeration chamber, and in a further aspect the baffle is longitudinally extensible to accommodate various size tanks.

TL;DR: In this article, a funnel-shaped lower portion with an outlet opening at the small diameter bottom end is shown, where a diffuser pad is mounted between said outlet opening and an outlet conduit to assist in fluidizing the materials during blending, and to aid in causing the blended materials to flow from the vessel through the outlet opening into the outlet conduit for transporting to a remote location.
Abstract: A closable pressure vessel is shown having a funnel-shaped lower portion with an outlet opening at the small diameter bottom end. Aerator pads are mounted on the inner wall of the lower portion to fluidize material in the vessel. Air jet fittings are also mounted on the inner wall of the lower portion to provide pulsating air jets to blend the fluidized materials in the vessel. A diffuser pad is mounted between said outlet opening and an outlet conduit to aid in fluidizing the materials during blending, and to aid in causing the blended materials to flow from the vessel through the outlet opening into the outlet conduit for transporting to a remote location.

TL;DR: In this article, an inclined baffle structure between the inlet and the outlet of the tank is used to divide the tank into an aeration chamber and a settling chamber, and an air diffuser is placed adjacent to the lowermost portion of the inclined-bubble structure.
Abstract: A sewage treatment apparatus or plant wherein treatment of the sewage is achieved by aeration. The apparatus consists of a tank having an inlet for raw sewage and an outlet for decomposed sewage, and an inclined baffle structure between the inlet and outlet to divide the tank into an aeration chamber and a settling chamber. The inclined baffle structure permitting sewage flow beneath and above the baffle structure, and a compressor for delivering air under pressure to an air diffuser positioned adjacent the lowermost portion of the inclined baffle structure whereby air in the form of bubbles issuing from the diffuser results in countercurrent flow in the aeration and settling chambers causing intimate mixing and aeration of all of the sewage in the tank. The apparatus also provides for means for returning scum from the surface of the settling chamber to the aeration chamber.

TL;DR: In this article, an annular diffuser assembly that receives gas discharged from a compressor impeller at supersonic velocity is described. The diffuser consists of a series of passages extending in a direction generally tangential to the impeller and spaced around the inlet ends intersect.
Abstract: The disclosure illustrates an annular diffuser assembly that receives gas discharged from a compressor impeller at supersonic velocity. The diffuser consists of a series of passages extending in a direction generally tangential to the impeller and spaced around the impeller so that their inlet ends intersect. The passageways each have a straight-sided polygon cross-sectional shape so that the diffuser passages have a series of generally Vshaped entrances. The diffuser passages may be formed with a particular cross-sectional shape to compensate for the variations in velocity of the airstream discharged from the impeller. The passageways may be formed from intersecting tubular elements or may be formed in opposing faces of a pair of sandwiched discs.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for providing particulate control of a target area comprises generating a decontaminated airflow and directing said airflow uniformly about the outer surface of an annular diffuser, whereby an object placed within the well of said diffuser is protected from internal and external contamination by a vertically flowing air barrier.
Abstract: A unit for providing particulate control of a target area comprises means for generating an airflow, means for effectuating a substantially contaminant-free conditioning of said airflow located in the path of said airflow, an annular diffuser having a radially projecting lip on the superior edge of the inner periphery of said diffuser, and an air plenum capable of uniformly directing said conditioned airflow against the outer surface of said diffuser. TL;DR: In this paper, a kitchen air extractor unit comprises a hood 10 detachably mounted on the front face of a diffuser casing 12, which casing is closed except for one or more air inlet and outlet holes in its front and rear or top faces respectively, the air collected by the hood being extracted to atmosphere by a fan 14.
Abstract: 1,174,677. Ventilating buildings. SAVAGE & WRIGHT Ltd. 13 Nov., 1968 [13 Nov., 1967], No. 51493/67. Heading F4V. A kitchen air extractor unit comprises a hood 10 detachably mounted on the front face of a diffuser casing 12, which casing is closed except for one or more air inlet and outlet holes in its front and rear or top faces respectively, the air collected by the hood being extracted to atmosphere by a fan 14. Moisture entrained in the air flow is trapped in the casing 12 and evaporated therefrom. Backdraught through a flue 30 is prevented by a damper 22 including a ring supporting two semicircular flaps which are covered with a flexible material joined to a diametrical strut and which are closed by gravity. The diffuser casing 12 is mounted on a wall 32 or on a hollow box therebetween. In another embodiment, the casing 12 is joined to the flue by ducting formed by interconnecting sections. The unit is made of aluminium alloy, synthetic plastics or fibreglass.

Abstract: A diffuser for granular herbicide dispensers which is formed of two sections constructed from plastic. Each section consists of a generally vertical wall having flanges along its side edges and a plurality of integrally formed protrusions. When the two sections are placed together the flanges overlap and the protrusions abut. The flanges which form sidewalls are generally downwardly divergent so that, as material is dispensed through the diffuser it strikes the protrusions and is spread laterally over a relatively wide area.
