TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the dispersed plug flow model to characterize the experimental response curve of a full scale aerator and found that the extent of mixing observed was independent of liquid detention time over the range of values employed in the activated sludge process.
Abstract: The dispersed plug flow model was found to characterize the experimental response curve of a full scale aerator. The extent of mixing observed was found to be independent of the liquid detention time over the range of values employed in the activated sludge process. Similarly the type of diffuser, fine or coarse bubble, did not significantly influence the level of mixing. The level of mixing existing in aerators of various geometric configurations was found to be a function of the airflow rate per unit volume and the cross-sectional geometry. The concentration profile of a substrate for a first order reaction was calculated for various levels of mixing. The influence of this longitudinal variation of concentration on the requisite airflow distribution along the length of the aerator was analyzed.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a method and means for providing a particulate free area in a clean room by placing a Diffuser in the middle of the room.
Abstract: FASHION AN OPERATOR IS ALWAYS DOWNWIND OF THE OPERATING AREA AND THE DIFFUSER MEANS CAN BE COMPARATIVELY SMALL IN SIZE. A METHOD AND MEANS FOR PROVIDING A PARTICULATE FREE AREA. IN THE PAST CLEAN ROOMS HAVE BEEN CREATED BY POSITIONING DIFFUSERS FOR CLEAN AIR, OR FILTERS WHICH CLEAN THE AIR, IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT THE AREA TO BE CLEANED. THE CLEAN AIR WAS BEAMED ACROSS THE AREA TO BE CLEANED AND AN OPERATOR WHO HAD TO APPROACH THE CLEAN AREA FROM AN UP-WIND SIDE CONTAMINATED THE CLEAN AREA. ALSO, DIFFUSERS AND FILTERS WERE OF SUCH A MASSIVE CONSTRUCTION THAT FREQUENTLY THEY LIMITED ACCESS TO THE OPERATOR AREA. THE INVENTOR PROVIDES TUBULAR DIFFUSER MEANS WHICH ARE SPACED ABOUT THE AREA TO BE CLEANED AND LOW VELOCITY CLEAN AIR IS DIFFUSED THROUGH THE PERIPHERY OF THE DIFFUSER MEANS IN SUCH A FASHION THAT CURRENTS DIRECTED INWARDLY TOWARDS THE WORK AREA FROM OPPOSITE SIDES THEREOF DIRECTIONALLY INFLUENCE EACH OTHER AND CREATE A RESULTANT CURRENT SUBSTANTIALLY NORMAL TO AND AWAY FROM SAID AREA. TL;DR: In this article, a vehicle safety assembly including an inflatable bag which is attached to a cup-shaped member defining an annular chamber is presented, where a diffuser is disposed within the bag and a gas generator is in communication with the annular chambers in the member.
Abstract: A vehicle safety assembly including an inflatable bag which is attached to a cup-shaped member defining an annular chamber. A diffuser is disposed within the bag and a gas generator is in communication with the annular chamber in the cup-shaped member. The cup-shaped member has a hole centrally thereof for receiving the steering shaft and a pair of brackets interconnect the diffuser and the spokes of the steering wheel whereby the assembly may be associated with conventional steering assemblies.

TL;DR: A perforated drum centrifuge as discussed by the authors is a high speed perforation drum with a filter material such as sand and the drum may have vanes on its periphery to form an impeller to act in conjunction with a diffuser casing to form a centrifugal pump integral with the filter.
Abstract: A sewage treatment apparatus having an input tank with mixing and screen filtering means for receiving liquid waste such as raw sewage. The level of liquid waste in the input tank controls a timer which activates a valve to release the screened sewage into a filter centrifuge for rapidly separating liquids and solids in the liquid waste. The solids separated are burned and vacuumed from the filter centrifuge following filtering of the liquid through a filter medium located in the centrifuge. A high speed perforated drum centrifuge is lined with a filter material such as sand and the drum may have vanes on its periphery to form an impeller to act in conjunction with a diffuser casing to form a centrifugal pump integral with the filter.

TL;DR: An air diffuser for discharging a maximum volume of air without creating drafts and the like having a rectangular shaped frame with a plurality of pivoted blades extending across the frame; the blades each having a head portion at the free end for creating a turbulence of air as the air is discharged by the diffuser and the frame being flared outwardly at the outlet to permit the turbulent air to flow laterally as it leaves the diffusers.

TL;DR: In this article, a DIFFUSER ELEMENT of the type used in a high-performance EVACUATION system as well as the method for fabricating the DIFFUSER is provided.
Abstract: A DIFFUSER ELEMENT OF THE TYPE USED IN A HIGH PERFORMANCE EVACUATION SYSTEM AS WELL AS THE METHOD FOR FABRICATING THE DIFFUSER IS PROVIDED. A PRECISELY MACHINED TWO PART TAPERED MANDREL IS ACCURATELY POSITIONED WITHIN A HOLLOW CASING. A SUITABLE MATERIAL THAT IS POURABLE AND WHICH HARDENS AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME IS THEN INTRODUCED INTO THE ANNULAR CHAMBER DEFINED BY THE OUTSIDE DIAMETER OF THE MANDREL AND THE INSIDE DIAMETER OF THE CASING. AFTER THE POURED MATERIAL HARDENS, THE MANDREL SECTIONS ARE SEPARATED AND AXIALLY REMOVED. THE COMBINATION OF THE HARDENED MATERIAL AND THE CASING FORM THE DIFFUSER ELEMENT.

TL;DR: A switch 12, Fig. 2, is mounted in transparent or translucent diffuser 38 located in a panel aperture (not shown), and has a lamp carrier 48 snap-fitted at the rear of the panel as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: 1,182,118. Indicators for switches. J. J. BELL. 13 Nov., 1967 [13 Aug., 1966]. No. 36338/66. Heading H1N. A switch 12, Fig. 2, is mounted in transparent or translucent diffuser 38 located in a panel aperture (not shown), and has a lamp carrier 48 snap-fitted thereto at the rear of the panel. A transparent retaining member 24 for the lamp carrier 48 is mounted on the switch body 22 and has a lug 34 which projects into recesses in the panel and diffuser 38 to hold the assembly against rotation.
