TL;DR: In this paper, a central diffuser body is located within the outer casing substantially along the longitudinal centerline of the muffler, and a mounting plate connects the front and rear ends of the diffuser to the inlet and outlet pipes, respectively.
Abstract: A muffler for use with internal combustion engines or the like having improved sound attenuation capabilities together with lower back pressure. The muffler has an elongated outer casing connected to inlet and outlet pipes by inlet and outlet transition sections. A central diffuser body is located within the outer casing substantially along the longitudinal centerline thereof. Mounting plates connect the front and rear ends of the diffuser body to the inlet and outlet pipes, respectively, to hold the diffuser body in place. An inner casing is spaced from, and conforms to, the inner surface of said outer casing between transition sections. The inner casing and the side wall of the diffuser body are perforated. Porous or fibrous sound absorbing material is contained within the diffuser body and between the inner and outer casings. The cross-sectional areas of the inlet pipe and the ring between the inner casing and the diffuser body are preferably substantially equal.

TL;DR: In this paper, the primary exposure to air via the air and then secondary exposure to the air via high-concentration oxygen gas each for the exposure of the liquid containing the soil water and the active sludge to air.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To ensure the purification of the soil water with a high efficiency of treatment, by carrying out the primary exposure to air via the air and then secondary exposure to air via the high-concentration oxygen gas each for the exposure of the liquid containing the soil water and the active sludge to air. CONSTITUTION:The soil water flowed in goes into the primary exposure-to-air room 6 through the pipe 16 to receive the supply of the air which is blown in from the diffuser 9. After this, the soil water goes into the secondary exposure-to-air room 8 via the settler 7 to receive a treatment of exposure to air by the high-concentration oxygen gas, and then enters the treatment bath 1. In this method, the problem of the CO2 accumulation due to the treatment of the oxygen gas can be eliminated for the exposure to air with use of a small amount of oxygen. Furthermore, the decomposition of the active sludge can be avoided.

TL;DR: A diffuser for the treatment of waste sludge utilizes low pressure air injected from below to produce a bed capable of being handled as a fluid such as to permit pumping from a sedimentation basin to a tank truck for transport to a point of use or disposal as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A diffuser for the treatment of waste sludge utilizes low pressure air injected from below to produce a bed capable of being handled as a fluid such as to permit pumping from a sedimentation basin to a tank truck for transport to a point of use or disposal. A system of air discharge pipes strategically located in the basin below the sludge connects with common air receiving manifold at the periphery of the basin, and a complete valve arrangement permits control of the air discharge to accommodate for all types of sludge under various conditions as required prior to and during emptying of the contents of the basin.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a diffuser consisting of an upper diffuser and a bottom diffuser, which are joined by a seam adjacent the periphery of the work area, with an effective area of between approximately 50% less than and approximately 20% greater than the work urea.
Abstract: The invention relates to diffuser drapes and has a particular application to drapes such as those used in surgical operations. Diffuser drapes have been proposed with a substantially elliptical aperture defining a work area which is surrounded by an inflatable clean air duct means integral with the drape. The clean air duct means has a diffuser therein surrounding the aperture and shaped so diffuse low velocity clean air radially through the diffuser inwardly across the aperture from opposite sides thereof to provide a resultant flow away from the aperture and upwardly and partly outwardly of the work area about the upper edges thereof. One of the problems faced with this type of drape is that of manufacturing the diffuser in an economical fashion. In the present invention the diffuser comprises an upper diffuser part and a bottom diffuser part joined by a seam adjacent the periphery of the work area, the bottom diffuser part having an effective area of between approximately 50% less than and approximately 20% greater than the said work urea. The top diffuser part has an annular width of approximately 3 inches and an area sufficient to provide a class 100 clean station air flow pattern adjacent the work area.

TL;DR: In this article, a white-like plastic diffuser is used to intercept the light beam before it strikes the detector to compensate for the falloff in sensitivity to rays closer to the outer margins of the diffuser.
Abstract: A testing apparatus for making photometric measurements with a light beam having a spatially ill-defined energy distribution. A detector (29,30; 91) for receiving the light beam and having a spatial variation in its sensitivity over its sensing area. A diffuser (91,97) is provided which is disposed in the light beam for intercepting the light beam before it strikes the detector. The diffuser is formed of a white-like plastic and has a thickness which decreases progressively towards the outer edged of the same to compensate for the fall-off in sensitivity of the detector to rays closer to the outer margins of the diffuser or away from the center of the diffuser. The diffuser is formed in two portions in which a portion (97) of the diffuser is in substantially closer proximity to the detector (91) than the other portion to minimize the directional sen- sitivity of the detector.
