TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of various parts of the diffuser on the rate of induction and hold-up characteristics of liquid jet loop reactors (LJLR) have been studied.
Abstract: Gas induction and hold-up characteristics of liquid jet loop reactors (LJLR) have been studied. From the results of these investigations with various diffuser geometries the effect of various parts of the diffuser on the rate of induction, QG , and the gas hold-up, EG , have been discerned. Two different diffuser designs yield highest EG and QG , respectively. The use of draft tube has been found to increase the gas hold-up by 25-60% over those in its absence. Correlations for QG and EG involving the main geometrical parameters of the nozzle-diffuser combinations and the liquid jet power input have been developed.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method of stable combustion in a fluidized bed incinerator for burning and decomposing refuse such as municipal wastes while fluidizing them is disclosed. But this method requires the use of a number of air diffuser tubes inside the incinerator body for fluidizing the refuse and the fluidizing medium.
Abstract: A method of stable combustion in a fluidized bed incinerator for burning and decomposing refuse such as municipal wastes while fluidizing them is disclosed. A number of air diffuser tubes are provided inside the incinerator body for fluidizing the refuse and the fluidizing medium. The fluidizing air from the air diffuser tubes is supplied at high speed or low speed from each of the tubes respectively. By alternately forming more and less fluidized areas inside the fluidized bed, the refuse is stably burned. Because of the stable combustion of the refuse, the combustion air ratio can be reduced and the combustion chamber temperature inside the incinerator can be maintained at a high level.

TL;DR: In this paper, the insoluble carrier of the calcined granular cristobalite is loaded into the aeration tank, and the synthetic sludge is added as seed sludge.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To treat waste water without decreasing the quality of treated water in high-BOD volumetric load by allowing microorganisms to stick of itself on the calcined cristobalite of an insoluble carrier and allowing the microorganism-stuck carrier to flow in an aeration tank. CONSTITUTION:The insoluble carrier 2 of the calcined granular cristobalite is loaded into the aeration tank 1 consisting of a flowing part 1a and a setting and separating part 1b above said part. Activated sludge is added as seed sludge thereto. The synthetic org. waste water is pumped 5 from a waste water tank 4 to the bottom of the aeration tank 1. Air is supplied through an air diffuser 6 to the aeration tank 1, by which the insoluble carrier 2 is raised in a draft pipe 7 and is lowered on the outside of the draft pipe 7 so as to flow in the aeration tank 1. As a result, the TOC value in the treated water is maintained constant even in the high BOD volumetric load. The possibility of decreasing the sludge concn. by the wear of the carrier is eliminated.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the correlation between the mixing time, shear gradient, and dimensionless diffuser submergence and found that mixing time in a vessel is primarily dependent on the shear gradients.
Abstract: The use of compressed air for bulk mixing in circular and rectangular vessels has been investigated. A definition for “100% uniformity” has been postulated and correlations between the mixing time, shear gradient, and dimensionless diffuser submergence have been presented. It has been found that the mixing time in a vessel is primarily dependent on the shear gradient, G. A secondary dependence on the diffuser submergence is noted. Mixing times were measured using dye concentration versus time plots of salt and Rhodamine‐B dyes in batch experiments. Salt dye was found to produce longer mixing times for similar operating conditions. The product of the mixing time and the shear gradient has been calculated and compared to the values recommended in the literature for standard water and wastewater treatment operations. The writers' data fall below those recommended values, as expected, since only the time required for bulk uniformity and not chemical reaction, biological activity, floe formation, or gas transf...

TL;DR: In this article, an aeration apparatus is arranged to the intermediate part of one tank to simultaneously perform denitrification reaction and nitration reaction, which can reduce installation area and to decrease running cost.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce installation area and to decrease running cost, by arranging an aeration apparatus to the intermediate part of one tank to simultaneously perform denitrification reaction and nitration reaction. CONSTITUTION:Sewage A, a recirculation liqiud D and return sludge E flowing in a nitration-denitrification tank 1 from a water inflow port 2 undergo oxygen diffusion on the aeration of inert gas J by a diffuser 12. The inert gas J and the diffused oxygen impinge against the diffusion wall 4 arranged to the upper part of the diffuser 12 and is issued to the outside of the nitration-denitrification tank 1 through a diffusion pipe 13. The diffusion wall 4 is partially inclined so as to prevent the inert gas J from entering a denitrification process part and the diffused treated liquid is brought to an anaerobic state to enter the denitrification process part where nitration-denitrification reaction is performed. By this method, a site is reduced to a large extent and energy can be saved.
