TL;DR: In this article, an apparatus and process for solvent pulping of cellulose-containing biomass utilizes at least one steaming vessel, a plug screw feeder or compression screw device, at least a super-atmospheric impregnation vessel, and a solvent delignification reactor capable of operating at a pressure of 350 psig or more.
Abstract: An apparatus and process for solvent pulping of cellulose-containing biomass utilizes at least one steaming vessel, a plug screw feeder or compression screw device, at least one super-atmospheric impregnation vessel, a solvent delignification reactor capable of operating at a pressure of 350 psig or more, and a solvent containing line for introducing solvent-containing liquor at the plug screw feeder outlet or compression screw device outlet. The process and system can also include at least one series connected pressure diffuser and optionally a retention tube downstream of each pressure diffuser to provide sufficient retention time to substantially preclude re-deposition of lignin on the cellulose fibers of the biomass, a blow tank connected to the last of the pressure diffusers and retention tubes, and vessels for multistage alcohol washing. The method steams the biomass and impregnates it with solvent to produce an aqueous slurry of biomass and solvent, delignifies the particulate biomass in the slurry, removes solvent while continuing delignification of the biomass in the slurry and while substantially precluding re-deposition of lignin on the cellulose of the biomass, reduces the pressure of the slurry; and then washes the slurry.

TL;DR: In this paper, a diffuser for wet processing systems involved in the manufacturing of semiconductor wafers is described. But the diffuser is not suitable for use in the semiconductor fabrication process.
Abstract: The invention relates to a diffuser for wet processing systems involved in the manufacturing of semiconductor wafers. The diffuser includes a plenum section and a slitted section. Pressurized fluid from the plenum section is forced through the slitted section and across a plurality of wafers mounted in the wet processing system. One advantage is that by “diffusing” pressurized fluid through the slitted section, a generally uniform and/or laminar flow is achieved. Desirably, the diffuser provides a more reliable, and hence more cost-effective, technology for wet processing fabrication of semiconductor wafers.

TL;DR: In this paper, a 2D model of gas transport in porous media is developed in the field of nonzero gradients of pressure and concentration, and a three-dimensional generalization of the model is performed.
Abstract: Binary molecular diffusion and pressure-driven fluxes of gas in porous media are studied. A 2-dimensional model of gas transport in porous media is developed in the field of nonzero gradients of pressure and concentration. Spatial distributions of oxygen concentration and fluxes in a porous diffuser are analyzed for geometric and physical parameters of the electrode. A three-dimensional generalization of the model is performed. Application to oxygen-flow modeling in electrodes of polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFC) is discussed for two simple configurations of gas supply channels: serpentine and interdigitated. Comparison of the results obtained for the two configurations is carried out. Oxygen flux through the catalytic membrane plane is investigated for physical characteristics of gases and the diffuser, geometry of the gas supply channels, and gas pressure in them. Recommendations for an optimal pressure regime for the specific geometry of the system and its physical characteristics are given.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors have disclosed ways to edge and end-seal the membrane strip diffusers to the diffuser bodies and how to close the gap between the membrane and diffuser body.
Abstract: Membrane strip diffusers are disclosed, useful for example in aerating wastewater in activated sludge plants. These diffusers have membranes, diffuser bodies and gas conduits elongated in the same general direction. Such conduits may be attached to or formed integrally with the diffuser bodies. Gas chambers form beneath the membranes when they inflate, and these are separate from but communicate with the gas conduits, e.g., through passageways distributed along the lengths of the membrane supports. Preferably, the passageway flow cross-sections are small, thus tending toward uniform distribution of gas along the membrane's length. Ways to edge- and end-seal the membranes to the diffuser bodies are also disclosed.
