TL;DR: In this paper, a vertical processing tank for denitrification of a liquid, such as water, comprises of an anaerobic process section (50 ) including a denitrifying biomass section ( 54 ); and an oxidation section ( 60 ), including a diffuser ( 61 ).
Abstract: Apparatus ( 10 ) for denitrification of a liquid, such as water, comprises a vertical processing tank ( 11 ) including: a bottom section ( 20 ) partially filled with activated sludge ( 22 ), bottom section ( 20 ) having a bottom ( 12 ) having a concave upward facing inner surface ( 13 ); a horizontal filter ( 40 ) spanning tank ( 11 ) above sludge ( 22 ); an anaerobic process section ( 50 ) including a denitrifying biomass section ( 54 ); and an oxidation section ( 60 ) including a diffuser ( 61 ). The method comprising the steps of: injecting impure water ( 90 ) into sludge ( 22 ) so as to travel helically upward to mix with sludge ( 22 ); filtering with filter ( 40 ); denitrifying with denitrifying biomass ( 54 ); and oxidizing the effluent water from anaerobic biomass ( 54 ) in oxidation section ( 60 ) including bubbling air from diffuser ( 63 ). Water ( 90 ) effluent from tank ( 11 ) is sterilized with an ozonation device ( 86 ).

TL;DR: The dynamic diffuser for a naturally diffusing liquid substance such as a perfume comprises a receptacle for said substance and having a vertical flank which is closed by a membrane that is impermeable to liquid but permeable to gas.
Abstract: The dynamic diffuser for a naturally diffusing liquid substance such as a perfume comprises a receptacle for said substance and having a vertical flank which is closed by a membrane that is impermeable to liquid but permeable to gas. All or part of the membrane is caused to come into contact with said substance, at least intermittently, by revolving the receptacle about a horizontal axis. Air-flow generating means, e.g. impeller blades, serve to cause air to flow over the outside of the membrane.

TL;DR: In this article, the first valveless diffuser micropumps fabricated using thermoplastic replication were used to fabricate more than 10000 plastic discs with a cycle time of less than 10 seconds per disc.
Abstract: Here we present the first valve-less diffuser micropumps fabricated using thermoplastic replication. Due to its simple planar geometry the valve-less diffuser pump is very suitable for thermoplastic replication. Two different thermoplastic replication methods have been used: hot embossing and injection molding. As mold inserts we used 0.1 and 0.2 mm deep precision milled brass mold inserts and 20 and 80 /spl mu/m deep microelectroformed nickel mold inserts defined from deep reactive ion etched (DRIE) silicon wafers. For the injection molding a commercially available Compact Disc injection molding machine (Toolex Alpha MD100) was used to fabricate the diffuser micropumps with extremely short cycle times. One properly fabricated mold insert of nickel can be used to fabricate more than 10000 plastic discs with a cycle time of less than 10 seconds per disc. The plastic material cost is about 5 cents each. Tested pumps reached a maximum volume flow of 1.9 ml/min and a maximum pump pressure of 7.7 kPa.

TL;DR: In this article, a gas turbine installation, a cooling air supplying method, and a method of modifying a turbine installation can reduce the amount of compressed air extracted for cooling of an exhaust plenum and which can increase energy efficiency.
Abstract: The invention provides a gas turbine installation, a cooling air supplying method, a method of modifying a gas turbine installation, which can reduce the amount of compressed air extracted for cooling of an exhaust plenum and which can increase energy efficiency. The gas turbine installation comprises an exhaust plenum comprising an exhaust casing connected to the downstream side of a turbine and made up of an outer casing and an inner casing, and an exhaust diffuser made up of an outer diffuser and an inner diffuser, which are disposed between the outer casing and the inner casing; a first cooling system for introducing, from the outer peripheral side of the outer diffuser, cooling air for cooling the exhaust plenum; and a second cooling system for introducing, from the inner peripheral side of the inner diffuser, cooling air for cooling the exhaust plenum.

TL;DR: In this article, an improved selfcleaning air filter of the pulse jet type is described, which includes at least one filter element (20) located in a dirty air plenum (6) which is separated from a clean air plenenum by a partition.
Abstract: An improved selfcleaning air filter (2) of the pulse jet type. The filter includes at least one filter element (20) located in a dirty air plenum (6) which is separated from a clean air plenum (8) by a partition (10). A nozzle (70) directs a cleaning jet of gas that moves in a back flow direction along the filter element to remove accumulated contaminants therefrom. A diffuser is located in the clean air plenum for diffusing the cleaning jet of gas to convert the cleaning jet to a high volume, low pressure jet which substantially fills the entire cross-sectional area of the filter element at the element outlet.
