12 Nov 1968TL;DR: In this paper, a safety assembly for protecting an occupant of a vehicle comprises an inflatable confinement having a collapsed inoperative condition and an expanded operative condition, a diffuser member, and a fluid reservoir, the confinement being inflated by the flow of fluid from the reservoir through the diffuser members into the confinement.
Abstract: A safety assembly for protecting an occupant of a vehicle comprises an inflatable confinement having a collapsed inoperative condition and an expanded operative condition, a diffuser member, and a fluid reservoir, the confinement being inflated by the flow of fluid from the reservoir through the diffuser member into the confinement. The length of the diffuser member is relatively smaller than the length of the confinement, and the diffuser member is provided with louvered slots for distributing and preferentially directing the flow of fluid therefrom so as to increase the ''''effective'''' length of the diffuser member and to reduce the frontal velocity of the confinement as it expands.

30 Oct 1991TL;DR: In this article, a channel type diffuser is applied to a centrifugal compressor to obtain substantially complete expansion of the refrigerant downstream of the impeller wheel, which is accommodated by the use of a relatively large volume collecter with a uniform circumferential cross section.
Abstract: A channel type diffuser is applied to a centrifugal compressor to obtain substantially complete expansion of the refrigerant downstream of the impeller wheel. The relatively large volume of expanded gases that results from such a diffusion process is accommodated by the use of a relatively large volume collecter with a uniform circumferential cross section. The result is higher efficiencies and a more stable operating range.

25 Jul 2007TL;DR: In this paper, the authors characterized a diffuser having a plurality of holes through which a bleed fluid flows and into a fluid stream, where at least some of the holes are at least partially tangentially angled relative to the flow through the valve so that the bleed air forms a vortex to enhance mixing with the fluid stream.
Abstract: A bleed valve for a gas turbine engine, the valve comprises a diffuser having a plurality of holes through which a bleed fluid flows and into a fluid stream. The diffuser is characterized in that at least some of the holes are at least partially tangentially angled relative to the bleed fluid flow through the valve so that the bleed air forms a vortex to enhance mixing with the fluid stream.

24 May 1993TL;DR: In this paper, the vaneless diffuser of a 1 metre diameter low speed backswept centrifugal compressor using a phase lock loop technique was used for hot wire anemometer measurements.
Abstract: Hot wire anemometer measurements have been made in the vaneless diffuser of a 1 metre diameter low speed backswept centrifugal compressor using a phase lock loop technique. Radial, tangential and axial velocity measurements have been made on eight measurement planes through the diffuser. The flow field at the diffuser entry clearly shows the impeller jet-wake flow pattern and the blade wakes. The passage wake is located on the shroud side of the diffuser and mixes out slowly as the flow moves through the diffuser. The blade wakes, on the other hand, distort and mix out rapidly in the diffuser. Contours of turbulent kinetic energy are also presented on each of the measurement stations, from which the regions of turbulent mixing can be deduced.Copyright © 1993 by ASME

TL;DR: The main target of the present paper was finding the simulation set-up that better fits with experimental data published by Tabatabai and Pollard, and results from numerical simulations performed with the ANSYS-CFX® code show that the choice of the turbulence model plays an important role in the results physical quality and accuracy.
