TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide an overview of the processes underlying the adoption and diffusion of innovations, with a focus on the specific context of the adoption of drip irrigation technology within the agricultural community of Cartagena, in Southeast Spain.
Abstract: Increasing concerns about water scarcity have promoted the adoption and diffusion of irrigation technologies, such as drip irrigation, which allow farmers to use water in a more efficient way, while saving water resources. While some dry regions have embraced drip irrigation, this technology remains scarcely deployed on a global scale. In this chapter we provide an overview of the processes underlying the adoption and diffusion of innovations, with a focus on the specific context of the adoption and diffusion of drip irrigation technology within the agricultural community of Cartagena, in Southeast Spain. Our final aim is to inform policy makers charged with the designing of initiatives aimed at saving water and at increasing climate change resilience in agricultural contexts. Our main insights suggest that effective policies focused on irrigation technology uptake should consider social, economic, technological and environmental factors affecting adoption and diffusion dynamics, and specifically those factors that define perceptions of water scarcity, such as water prices and availability of water.

TL;DR: Meir et al. as discussed by the authors considered regional development as a prerequisite for, and an outcome of, a growth-inducing innovation diffusion process and divided internal and external prerequisites into internal ones, signifying degree of economic development, and external ones, indicating degree of exposure to information about the innovation.
Abstract: Meir A. (1981) Innovation diffusion and regional economic development: the spatial diffusion of automobiles in Ohio, Reg. Studies 15, 111–122. Regional development is considered both as a prerequisite for, and an outcome of, a growth-inducing innovation diffusion process. Regional prerequisites are divided into internal ones, signifying degree of economic development, and external ones, signifying degree of exposure to information about the innovation. The diffusion process changes the spatial distribution of these prerequisites, which then act as prerequisites for future diffusion of innovations. Such changes relate primarily to the concentration of population and income among higher urban hierarchical levels. The automobile as a growth-inducing innovation has diffused in Ohio subject primarily to the internal prerequisites (such as household income, automobile diffusion agencies and, to a certain degree, road quality). Those areas whose initial adoption rates were higher also exhibit higher population a...

TL;DR: The results from this study display a left shift in the bell-shaped curve of Rogers’ ( 2003 ) theory of diffusion of innovations, indicating an increase in the category of early adopters of technology from 50 to 90%.
Abstract: The world is transforming through digitalisation and business schools are predisposed to this transition Some universities have slickly sailed through the digitalisation challenge, while others have been left behind The purpose of this research paper is to identify and examine the variables that impact the successful adoption of digitalisation by business schools Gaining an understanding of these variables will help business schools adopt digitalisation for long-term improvement Analysing gaps in the literature (mostly using sources from 2013 to 2019) helped identify eight independent variables that can influence the adoption of digitalisation in business schools A five-point Likert scale questionnaire containing 56 non-demographic questions was sent to the target population The survey saw responses from 421 participants worldwide, including academics from flagship business schools and education technology experts A conceptual model was developed using a structural equation model in ADANCO 201, which was used to postulate the hypotheses Empirically, students’ competence has the strongest influence on the adoption of digitalisation by business schools, followed closely by teachers’ competence and technology diffusion, in that order However, industry expectations do not significantly influence this adoption This reflects a lapse from business schools in coping with the expectations of the corporate world, thus indicating that future researchers need to study this misalignment The results from this study display a left shift in the bell-shaped curve of Rogers’ (2003) theory of diffusion of innovations, indicating an increase in the category of early adopters of technology from 50 to 90%

TL;DR: In this article, the authors address the problem of diffusion of innovations over multiplex social networks where the neighbours of a person belong to one or multiple networks (or layers) such as friends, families, or colleagues.
Abstract: The ways in which an innovation (e.g., new behaviour, idea, technology, product) diffuses among people can determine its success or failure. In this paper, we address the problem of diffusion of innovations over multiplex social networks where the neighbours of a person belong to one or multiple networks (or layers) such as friends, families, or colleagues. To this end, we generalise one of the basic game-theoretic diffusion models, called networked coordination game, for multiplex networks. We present analytical results for this extended model and validate them through a simulation study, finding among other properties a lower bound for the success of an innovation. While simple and leading to intuitively understandable results, to the best of our knowledge this is the first extension of a game-theoretic innovation diffusion model for multiplex networks and as such it provides a basic framework to study more sophisticated innovation dynamics.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors developed an agent-based model that tests various network-based targeting strategies on generated inter-firm networks with different parameters to understand mechanisms that could boost and accelerate the adoption and diffusion of eco-innovations.
