Abstract: Drawing parallels between the Open Research (OR) movement and traditional for-profit business strategies provides useful insight to those who are championing OR practices. Adopters of OR practices are akin to a customer base, and the common focus is to expand. Roger’s Diffusion of Innovation curve provides a market segmentation according to the number of consumers/adopters. Rogers provides descriptors of these ideal types (2003, 282-285). Cross-tabulating the ideal types with the initial constructs in the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (Venkatesh, et al. 2023), provides inspiration to craft targeted messages for different types of adopters, which will hopefully lead to behavioural intention and ultimately undertaking an OR practice. These initial constructs are performance expectancy (what kind of expectation the adopter will have of the practice), effort expectancy (how much effort the adopter is willing to put into making a new practice work for them) and social influence (how they are likely to be influenced by others).

Abstract: This paper describes university faculty and leaders' perspectives on the role of Public Egyptian universities in developing national innovation system(NIS), as universities are often cited as a critical institutional actors in national innovation systems, most of the literature on national innovation systems defines them as the institutions and actors that are critical for the creation, development, and diffusion of innovations. This qualitative study is based on interviews with 73 University Faculty and Leaders in Egypt, finds possible advantages for Public Egyptian universities to develop national innovation system, as well as a number of barriers that hinder the Public Egyptian universities to develop national innovation system. The main objective of this paper is to discuss the relevance of innovation systems to economic growth , analyze the Egyptian NIS beginning with a brief introduction of the role of innovation and an examination of the elements that comprise national innovation systems, interaction between various actors involved, and shows how the Public Egyptian universities are important players in developing the National Innovation System. One important theme in this paper is to define the challenges that faces the Public Egyptian universities to substantially support NIS. Three existing Frameworks ( “Mode 2 ” ,”Triple Helix” and “Entrepreneurial University) to explain the significance of universities linkages to NIS are discussed, and the context of developing innovation systems in Egypt and the government initiatives in that regard will be explored. Abstract: In Software Engineering, technology transfer has been faced as a peer to peer problem, concerning only the adoption and innovation agents. This approach works well when one is just seeking the adoption of a technology by a specific client, but it can not solve a common problem that is the adoption of new technologies by a large mass of potential new users. In wider context, it no longer makes sense to focus on peer to peer transfer. A new way of looking at the problem is necessary. The diffusion of innovations is more natural when it is treated as a spread of information in a community, similar to that observed in epidemics. This work proposes a paradigm shift to show that the adoption of programming languages can be formally treated as an epidemic. This shift of focus allows the dynamics of adoption of programming languages to be mathematically modeled as such, defining models that explain the communities' behavior when adopting programming languages, and allows some forecast to be made.

Abstract: Based on the dissemination of knowledge in social networks within urban communities, this study proposes an agent-based model of innovation diffusion for Renewable Energy Technologies (RET 1 ). To model the pace of RET innovation diffusion, the information flow patterns across social media networks including Twitter and home networks are merged. The resulting strategy offers a framework for capturing how RET innovation dissemination in urban neighborhood networks and online social networks may affect household uptake of renewable energy technology. The introduction of solar PV in Qatar serves as an example of how this strategy is applied.

Abstract: Purpose of the paper : The paper aims at developing a theoretical framework that links diffusion policies to the types of barriers to which theoretical models of diffusion of innovation implicitly or explicitly refer. Methodology : The conceptual framework is based on an extended literature review. The model is applied to an empirical case: the technology policy applied to diffuse the Li-Ion battery for electric vehicles. Findings : Literature has deeply analysed the policies for the development of innovations, but analysed the policies for innovations diffusion much less. To fill this gap, the study highlights that an effective approach to the diffusion of a new technology should be based on a careful analysis of the barriers to such diffusion and on a set of policies that simultaneously act on these barriers. Research limits : Additional empirical studies are required to assess the applicability of the proposed conceptual framework. Practical implications : The conceptual framework of this paper has implications for scholars and policy makers. For scholars the paper opens the path towards the deepening of a subject that is still little studied. For policy makers the research provides a conceptual tool to guide their choices in supporting the diffusion of relevant technologies. Originality of the paper : The paper classifies the barriers to the diffusion of a new technology, providing a different perspective on theoretical studies on the diffusion of innovations. It proposes a theoretical framework that links policies supporting the dissemination of an innovation to the diffusion barriers for the first time. The potential explanatory power of the model is verified through a concrete case study.
