28 Jun 1996TL;DR: In this article, a system for digital image capture and transmission, which includes a digital camera that has an electronic image sensor for sensing an image and producing a digital image; a memory for storing digital images produced by the image sensor in digital image files, the digital images files having associated information for controlling a remote image fulfillment server; a voice recorder for digitizing voice commands relating to control of the image fulfilment server; and a transmitter for transmitting the digital image file to the image transmitter.
Abstract: A system for digital image capture and transmission, includes a digital camera that has an electronic image sensor for sensing an image and producing a digital image; a memory for storing digital images produced by the image sensor in digital image files, the digital image files having associated information for controlling a remote image fulfillment server; a voice recorder for digitizing voice commands relating to control of the image fulfillment server; and a transmitter for transmitting the digital image file to the image fulfillment server. Either the camera or the fulfillment server includes a voice recognition module responsive to the digitized voice commands for producing control signals for the image fulfillment server. The image fulfillment server includes a receiver for receiving the digital image file and control signals; a memory for storing the received digital image file; and a file manager for managing the digital image file in response to the control signals.

TL;DR: In this article, a system for monitoring and reporting traffic violations at a traffic location is described, which consists of a digital camera system (102) deployed at the traffic location and a data processing system (104).
Abstract: A system (100) for monitoring and reporting incidences of traffic violations at a traffic location is disclosed. The system comprises a digital camera system (102) deployed at a traffic location. The camera system (102) is remotely coupled to a data processing system (104). The data processing system (104) comprises an image processor (132) for compiling vehicle and scene images produced by the digital camera system, a verification process (138) for verifying the validity of the vehicle images, an image processing system for identifying driver information (136, 108) from the vehicle images, and a notification process (8) for transmitting potential violation information to one or more law enforcement agencies.

TL;DR: In this article, a digital segmentation method and apparatus determines foreground and background within at least one portion of a captured image, which can be implemented as part of a digital camera acquisition chain having effective computation complexity.
Abstract: A digital segmentation method and apparatus determines foreground and/or background within at least one portion of a captured image. The determining includes comparing a captured image to a pre-captured or post captured reference image of nominally the same scene. One of the images is taken with flash and the other without. The system can be implemented as part of a digital camera acquisition chain having effective computation complexity.

TL;DR: In this paper, a technique that significantly improves particle axial-location accuracy by exploring the reconstructed complex amplitude information, compared with other numerical reconstruction schemes that merely mimic traditional optical reconstruction is described.
Abstract: Digital holography appears to be a strong contender as the next-generation technology for holographic diagnostics of particle fields and holographic particle image velocimetry for flow field measurement. With the digital holographic approach, holograms are directly recorded by a digital camera and reconstructed numerically. This not only eliminates wet chemical processing and mechanical scanning, but also enables the use of complex amplitude information inaccessible by optical reconstruction, thereby allowing flexible reconstruction algorithms to achieve optimization of specific information. However, owing to the inherently low pixel resolution of solid-state imaging sensors, digital holography gives poor depth resolution for images, a problem that severely impairs the usefulness of digital holography especially in densely populated particle fields. This paper describes a technique that significantly improves particle axial-location accuracy by exploring the reconstructed complex amplitude information, compared with other numerical reconstruction schemes that merely mimic traditional optical reconstruction. This novel method allows accurate extraction of particle locations from forward-scattering particle holograms even at high particle loadings.
